GUSTAV MAHLER

Although his scarce and magnificent works are composed between the XIX and XX centuries, the significance and importance of his music in a series of composers make him worthy to be considered as the first great composer of this century. Son of a jew pedlar, Mahler studies on the Vienna Conservatory pointing his musical career, mainly, as an orchestra conductor, position from which he was knowed and recognized on his times. As that he was alternating his work between Budapest, Hamburg, Vienna and, finally, New York; his music, scarcely popular during the Composer's life, held his true importance with the outcome of the century. His nine (and a half) symphonies, as well his symphonic lieder, has become extremely popular, and his importance and influence as composer is undeniable.
