The outcome of this recording of themes from the Alien trilogy coincide in time with the shoothing of the cycle's new sequel, in the beginning entitled Alien: Resurrection, under the direction of the french Jean-Pierre Jeunet and with the possible score of the unknown John C. Frizzell. Hard task have this composer in front of the three splendid works which precede him.
Everything has been said about Alien (1979), specially in reference of the final use in the movie of outside music to the written by Jerry Goldsmith -Howard Hanson, Mozart, and bits from own Goldsmith's Freud-, although the record issued in time has the original score. In the suite offered by the conductor, and also excellent composer, Cliff Eidelman has been included the film version of the Main Title, different from the one on the original record, and another six cues between which there is two (Hyper Sleep and The Door) previously unavailable. For Aliens (1986), James Horner deliver one of his wildest scores, very in mood with the very violent first sequel, and the three cues here offered are a good token of the spirit of this work. Equally essential are the three cues from Alien 3 (1992), the first serious film work of the now celebrated Elliot Goldenthal, and his more contemporary and advanced style is clear from the first note.
Special mention to the excellent version offered by Eidelman, each time a better director, and the scottish orchestra already customary on the recordings of the Varese label, as well to the very complete and detailed libretto, which includes observations on the three movies and biographical data from Goldsmith, Horner, Goldenthal and Eidelman.
