Author of a couple of television scores -Crime of the Century (1996) and, specially, the series VR.5 (1995)-, as well three film features -among them the iconoclastic Beavis and Butthead Do America (1996)-, John C. Frizzell seems to be quite in fashion right now due his two consecutives assignments for two films with big budgets, the actual Dante's Peak and the future and awaited Alien Resurrection. Helped by the prestige of James Newton Howard, author of the Main Theme of this adventure and volcanic catastrophes movie, and his usual orchestrators, Frizzell looks to wish continuing by the path marked by Newton Howard, and his powerful style with a balanced use of both purely orchestral as electronic components, may remember some of his more well-known scores. But do not think that we are in front of an impersonal work; at the contrary, we must celebrate it as the uprising of a new voice in the medium, with a lot of things to say. Time, and a undeniable quality, are their best allieds. M.A.F.
