Thomas Newman: THE HORSE WHISPERER

Thomas Newman masterly synthesizes in this new score the obvious presence of a country palette very close to Phenomenon (1997) (Angus), and a symphonic bucolism (Montana) related to other own compositions like How to Make an American Quilt (1995). The proverbial simplicity of the terms in those which is unfolded the score, and the rich orchestration of a Thomas Pasatieri especially concerned about the melodic evolution through the wind games (flute - english horn) and strings (violin - cello), are the most important advantages of this magnificent score with which Newman achieves to merge with unquestionable precision the eclecticism of his sonic formulations with the employment of a traditional symphonic band. Perhaps it will be only questionable the scarce presence that the composer grants to the brilliant main theme, whose melody is restricted to two cues, The Rhythm of the Horse and End Title. D.R.C.
