Thomas Newman: OSCAR AND LUCINDA

After a first comparison phase, with titles as Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) or The Lost Boys (1987), the work of the youngest of Newman's musical dynasty began to be treated with respect after the success of Fried Green Tomatoes (1991). Since then it has been converted into one of the most requested and recognized composers, thanks especially to his atemporary and very personal sound, mixture of classical tradition, electronic effects and actual instruments. In this so peculiar direction, results particularly successful his music for Oscar and Lucinda, whose romantic history between two misplaced in the Australia of middle of the XIX century, remain intertwined in the delicate and elegant sound plot that displays Thomas Newman, more atemporary and stilized than never. The final touch of the disk puts it the exquisite diction of the main performer Ralph Fiennes reciting a passage of the original novel, in a curious clasp to Newman's score. M.A.F.
