Jerry Goldsmith: POLTERGEIST

Never edited previously on CD, Goldsmith's excellent score for the famous Tobe Hooper-Steven Spielberg film was one of the most searched and requested titles by the film music fans. One of the top works from the californian composer, this new Poltergeist edition follows the good path started by Rhino recovering recordings from the MGM/UA files (with its policy of including the total amount of music used in the film in the same order as heared, along with alternate and/or rejected cues), which allows to hear a big amount of unpublished material in the 1982 LP edition, until now the only one available (and at a forbidden price). Only two cues (The Light and Rebirth) appear as previously edited; the rest of the original record cues includes new material on each and everyone of them, adding also three completely new ones (among them the splendid 7:37 minutes of It Knows What Scares You), as well three other cues not used on the final editing of the film. With a spectacular and very optimized sound, there is no excuses now to stop the pleasure to hear the sometimes terrifying, sometimes impressionist, Goldsmith's masterpiece. Run for a copy! E.V.
