Christopher Young: SET IT OFF

In spite of composing splendid works of classical sound and aspect, like the inspired Murder in the First (1995), Christopher Young does not forget that he is still a young person, and so his musical talent, one of the more interesting of the actual panorama, can be at the service of actual and vibrant films, much more urban on colour and environment. This is the case of Set It Off, the story of four friends without hope and course which decided to look for their future by their own, even outside the law. Surrounded by songs of the moment -edited isolated by Elektra Records-, Young's music finds time to be modern without losing to be personal, brilliant and emotive; the use of a varied orchestration, on which besides the usual and traditional symphonic group there are voices, electronic percussion, saxes and guitars, provides the exquisite equilibrium of the score, opened and closed by a terrific song, Up Against the Wind, also a work of the american composer.
