Jerry Goldsmith: STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT

Coming back to the famous galactic saga seventeen years after his excellent Star Trek (1979), Jerry Goldsmith lean on and collaborate with his son Joel on the obtaining of a new step in the long symphonic tradition of the saga. Thus, after the participation on previous sequels of authors of stature like James Horner, Leonard Rosenman or Cliff Eidelman, Goldsmith's comeback didn't offer new horizons to the previously heared; Star Trek: First Contact use again the unavoidable main theme of Alexander Courage -curiously, here one of the orchestrators-, as well the one created by Goldsmith himself for the first delivery, and embody a new motif, specially grand, solemn and melodic, which is among the best on the record. Of Joel Goldsmith's music, the best we can say is that, although not specially distinguished, neither clash with the rest of the score. Two superfluous songs close the CD, which also has -due its belonging to the generation of Enhanced CD- interviews with the composers, filming material and a lot of interesting hairpieces on its multimedia part.
