Franz Waxman: LEGENDS OF HOLLYWOOD - VOLUME 4

Continuing the CD series devoted to the music of the great Franz Waxman, its producer and son of the composer, John W. Waxman, deliver the Fourth Volume of an essential collection, this time retrieving unheard scores since its origin, properly restored for the occasion. Keeping the level of the previous volumes, and thanks to the stupendous performance of Richard Mills and the australian Queensland Symphony Orchestra, we may enjoy the suites of eight titles between which, to point up some in particular, it should be mention the showiness and orchestral power of Untamed, the excellent gothic ambiance of My Cousin Rachel, the tonal gravity of The Story of Ruth, or the dramatic timbre and rhythm games of Dark City. Special attention to the classicism and joy of A Christmas Carol, a delight for the ears. Unadorned comments from the producer provide the setting for each of the films, unfolding with spotlessness the hability and unique variety of a composer, well esteemed but not enough known, maybe due to the lack of available recordings. This is the motif for which records like these can't miss on any proud discotheque. M.A.F.
