Rose Fishkin Rose Fishkin married Samuel Cohen in May, 1894. They had four children - George Cohen, Anna Cohen (my Grandmother), Gertrude (Gertie) Cohen and Tess Cohen. It is not known when Rose died. Rose came to the United States around 1903 from Kiev, Russia (now Ukraine) with George and Anna. Rose was a Baker and a Chef. She was often asked to go to the big hotels in the Catskill Mountains of NY to prepare meals. She also owned a bakery in Brooklyn, NY which was frequented by members of the infamous Murder, Inc. Sometimes, she was escorted home by one or more of the the gangsters. Samuel Cohen also lived in Kiev, Russia and left his wife and family to make enough money for them to leave. He first went to South Africa, then NY, Altoona (PA) and back to East New York (Brooklyn) to reunite with his family. The Cohen surname was given in the United States.

George Cohen was born before 1901. He married Blanche and had two children - Lester Cohen and Bernice Cohen. It is not known when George died. Photos of George and Blanche Cohen taken at the May 20, 1973 Bar Mitzvah of Barry Shafer.

Anna Cohen was born on July 20, 1902 in the Kiev, Russia (now Ukraine) area. Anna married Abraham Shafer on December 16, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY. They had two children - Arthur Shafer and Stanley Shafer (my father). Anna died on October 9, 1993 in Fair Lawn, NJ.

Gertrude Cohen was born on May 1, 1911 in Bronx, NY. She married Murray Minsky on November 11, 1933 in New York. They had two children - Bernard Minsky and Roberta Minsky. Gertrude died on March 16, 1993 in Fair Lawn, NJ.

Tess Cohen was born on April 23, 1913 in the United States. She married Frank Schreiber on November 23, 1932. They had two children - Carol Schreiber and Donna Schreiber. Tess died while residing in Florida.

Sam (Jama) Fishkin married Annie Asherowitz and had four children - Michael (Mick) Fishkin (aka Fisk), Sylvia (Tsippie) Fishkin, Henry Fishkin and Naomi Fishkin. Sam lived from 1880-1965.

Michael Fishkin married Lil and had two children.

Sylvia Fishkin married Martin (Muni) Levy and had two children, Sidney and Leonard.

Henry Fishkin married Natalie and had a daughter, Marsha.

Naomi Fishkin married Herman Markowitz and had two children.

Mutter (Mutna) Fishkin never married and I do not have an other details about his life.
