Mil. Svc.:: 1862, 24 Mar; Clarke Co., AL; CSA Enlistment Records: Four documents were found in the envelope --- (A) Aaron Buckaloo, 41 years, 5 ft., 7 in., fair complexion, black eyes, black hair, farmer, born Clark Co, was enlisted by D. Daffin at Grove Hill as private of Captain Daffin's Co. E of Col. Byrd's Reg. of 90 day troops. (B) A certification dated 17 Apr 1872. (C) A pay voucher dated 21 June 1862 for $11.63, $8.43 for service 24 Mar - 7 Apr 1862 and clothing, $3.20. (D) A paper stating Adam (sic) Buckaloo, Pvt., Co. E, Byrd's AL 90 day troops, was discharged 17 Apr 1862, paid 21 June 1862.

I (Les Buckalew) saw his widow's pension pension application (microfilm), dated 14 Apr 1891, on 21 June 1996 at City Library, Birmingham, AL. My notes: Pvt. in Co. I (?), 38th AL; widow living in Clarke Co., AL; qualification included death in war or within one (later changed to five) years after wounding or disease.

Later, found another Confederate record for another Aaron Buckaloo; Mil. 4th Vol. Co. E.

Aaron married Rebecca Ann. Born about 1822 in Clarke Co., AL.

1860 living in Clarke Co., AL.

1488. Mary Ann Buckalew. Born about 1824.

Another source gives Mary's husband as Michael Sheens.

On 17 April 1843 when Mary Ann was 19, she married James Augustus Antley, son of Jacob Antley (1794-July 1854) & Mary Gill (about 1798-), in Clarke Co., AL. Born on 10 November 1823 in Millville, Clark Co., AL. James Augustus died in Wilhite, LA, on 13 March 1901; he was 77.

Much of the information about James Augustus Antley and his marriages to Mary Ann Buckaloo and then later to Susan Buckaloo was received from Debie Antley Murphy, who also wrote "Abt 1858 they migrated to LA where Susan also died. James oldest son, Richard, from his erd marriage to Ellen Day, married Dona L. Buckaloo whose father, David was brother (sic) to James' first two wives. Mary, Susan and David's parents were William and Ruth (Larymore) Buckalew. His parents were believed to be George and Mary Buckalew."

"...James Augustus purchased land in Union Parish in 1855. I have also sent off to
National Archives for James land in Clarke Co. that was patent dated 1852.
The land In Union Parish was dated 1858 patent so I believe he probably
purchased his land in AL much earlier than 1852. Per his pension application
he states that they came to La in the Autumn of 1850. That would mean they
left shortly after the census was taken in AL and came straight to LA. To
double check this information, I sent off for William Franklins Pension app
from the Civil War also. He also states his family came to Union Parish, La.
in 1850. William Franklin is James and Mary Ann Bucklaew Antleys son. "

They had the following children:
2673 i. William Franklin (1844-)
2674 ii. Mary (1846-)

1489. Abraham Abram? Buckalew. Born about 1825 in SC.

1850 Clarke Co, AL, census.

1490. Susan Buckalew. Born about 1828 in Clarke Co., AL.

On 29 October 1846 when Susan was 18, she married James Augustus Antley, son of Jacob Antley (1794-July 1854) & Mary Gill (about 1798-), in Clarke Co., AL.

There is a Andrew J Buckalew who married Martha WADE in Clarke Al p

Subject: Re: Looking up family

Dear Les, Hello and thanks for the prompt response! Looking at your information, my husband and I think you have the correct William Buckalew. I found another William Buckalew, middle i. was Madison. This William was born at Linden, Marengo Co. in 1838. But as you know some dates could be off a bit and spellings are not always correct.

Bama being the daughter is the key, and yes there were about eight children.I can provide much information on her and her siblings. I think you have the right William though, because we have a paper showing he was in the civil war and it seems to square up with what you sent.

Can you find information on who his parents were and which Ross family was Bama's mother?

Thanks for you help and I am going to let you tell me what information you would like from me. Lisa

...
On David Abraham Buckaloo's wife Elizabeth Harrison. I have been told her parents were not Henry and Martha Harrison. That they were has been widely believed within the family researchers. I spoke with Mrs. Orelle Atkins of Winnsboro and she told me that Henry Harrison was actually Elizabeth's cousin. I found his family in the 1860 Union Parish census entry # 201 and believe she is correct. V.Henry Harrison is too young to be Elizabeth's
father.

As to Arthur Antley's reference to Elizabeth also being know as Grandma LouAnn. From what I understand he heard that from cousins who remember the name. I've been told by a descendant of Louise A., Abraham and Elizabeth's daughter, that she went by Grandma LouAnn. I'm thinking that was the Grandma "LouAnn" remembered by some of Arthur's cousins. ...
