Note: Be sure to install the Visual Basic Runtime v6.0 before installing

WRPV3.ZIP is the Best and easiest Registry Backup/Restore I've Seen.
Go To:
http://www.webdev.net/orca/
and Click on tools, then WRP: Install and backup. This is a well written
batch file driven bakup and restore, so it writes nothing to your system.
Far better than Microsofts URU. Or Download HERE
NOTE: This is for Windows 95. Do not use with 98
If you want to monitor your registry for changes duing installation.
INCTRL 4's report includes a list of all the files and directories
added by the install program, a list of registry keys and values added

files. You also get information about files and registry values changed
by the install program, and INI file keys whose values have changed.
go to http://ftpsearch.ntnu.no/
and type Inctrl4.zip Everyone should have this freeware Or

I've found that Inctrl4 can be used as a Troubleshooter for Startup
and Shutdown Problems.
Thusly:
Shut off all running applications.
Run Phase one (information gatering) then re-boot.Once back in windows
run Phase two (shows all thing that occured with your system)
Two Phase:
1. When you open Inctrl4, click report filename>>>call it test.txt
then click save.
2. See "Tracking Mode: and choose 'Disk Contents Compression".
3. Then Click the Red "GO" button.
4. It will then gather data and then tell you it's done.
5. Click Ok, and reboot.
6. Right after Re-boot, the 1st thing Launch Inctrl4 again.
7. It will automatically start gathering date and comparing.
8. Then it will present you with a report of every action done.
Even if you have Winzip or whatever.
This makes a nice folder of it's own in any directory when you simply
right click a zip file and choose expand.
You'll love it.
Changing a file's extension is as simple as right-clicking a file and
selecting a file type from a list of entries as defined in the
system registry.
1.Right-clicking on a file object within the Explorer's namespace pops
up a context menu showing available options.
2.ChangeExt adds a submenu "Extension: xxx" (where 'xxx' is the file's
extension).
3.Keeping the menu selected for a few seconds then pops up a list of
file attributes associated to the selected file.
4.Selecting the Type menu item or the Change item of the Attributes
submenu brings up a "File Information" dialog for the selected file.
5.To change the extension, either select an item from the "Registered
file types" list or type in the extension in the "New extension" field.
6.Hit OK to continue with the rename, or Cancel to abort.

There's a great utility written by Thomas Reimann I'm using and have
been for quite some time called "Cacheman".
It's small, write only a few bytes to your registry and has my system
screaming without memory problems, lock-ups, slow painting nor any of the
nasty stuff associated with poor memory resource usage
It's also Free. To get it go to http://www.outertech.com/
and download "Cacheman".
Currently, Cacheman has set my System.ini's [vcache] at
[vcache]
minfilecache=10240
maxfilecache=10240
chunksize=256
I've set my swapfile at Minimum=128 and Maximum=128. Also put the swapfile
on E:
I'm running happily with 128mg Ram
Thomas Reimann"s site also has quite a collection of Freeware and Shareware.

Yes, you can print a list of the files and folders contained in any
Windows folder, but you should seek outside help-free help, of course.
I've tried all the directory-printing freeware and shareware programs I
could find. The winner is;
PrintFolder 1.1, from No Nonsense software (http://no-nonsense-software/freeware).
The small-sized PrintFolder doesn't try to do too many things and works
from a Context menu item. The 525KB PrintFolder download includes a README
file, Windows setup and uninstall. PrintFolder can print files, subfolders
or both, and it includes several other adjustable options. This utility
isn't fancy, but it does the job both locally and on networks.

There a DOS utility to backup Long Filenames in Win95 Far better than Microsofts.

DLL Show for Windows 95 is a small utility that displays a list of
all tasks and processes currently running on your MS Windows 95 system.
I like it better than Norton Utilities Resource meter. It shows how much
ram is used, when ram is used up it shows where your swapfile takes over
and how much free. and GDI.
Disk CleanUp is a small disk utility designed to clear previously deleted
files. Deleting a file normally just removes a file’s directory entry,
but the data itself remains on the disk. Disk CleanUp completely eliminates
the contents of these deleted files. It's like formating without lossing
anything except unseen remnents of deleted files. See and download at http://www.execpc.com/~sbd/

When working with policy editor, any changes made to the default profile
will be made to all profiles, and this isn't desired. So it's best to get
used to typing in a username and password (or no password if you would
like - just leave it blank the first time you logon) right now. Use a freeware
utility called Robert's Shutdown that will disable people from using the
default profile,
and will prevent new users from logging onto the computer. Install
this
once all the profiles have been setup.

Run Programs and cleanup tasks at Shut Down This program automatically
detects attempts to shutdown Windows 95. It then postpones the shutdown
and runs all programs found in the \Windows\Shutdown folder. Once
the programs in the Shutdown group have finished, the shutdown of Windows
proceeds.

Lets you add partitions in the Windows NT Multiboot menu. Usually,
you only have an MSDOS or Windows 95 entry and one (or several) entries
on the Windows NT multiboot. With BOOTPART, you can add any partition on
the menu. You can add OS/2 Multiboot, or Linux Partition (with Lilo) in
the menu. The only thing I highly suggest : your active partition on your
first hard disk must be a FAT16 primary partition. This can be a small
partition. It seems it's actually impossible add an HPFS
partition with OS/2 boot. If you find a workaround, please let me know.
To use this utility, first run Netsetup and create a network installation
of Windows 95. You can then use Infinst.exe to add
external components—for example, the SNMP agent (in Admin\Nettools\Snmp)—to
the Netsetup tree and (optionally) force
installation of the components using a batch script.

It is definitely possible to add your own icons. Here's how to customize

Doc*Master is a utility for Windows95/NT which makes it easy to manage
the Recent Documents Menu. You can choose to keep it empty, select
files to keep in it, launch multiple programs and documents with a single
click, and more. Doc master will allow 28 Documents with OSR2.
TIP: If you clear the document list and let it build up, then the length
is limited to 15, as in WIN95. But, if you open more than 15 documents
in succession before starting Doc Master, then you get a list of 28 documents.

Splitit95 is an excellent way to split large files into smaller chunks.
A simple, easy-to-use interface walks you step by step through splitting
files up to 2GB into smaller parts. Splitting can be done three different
ways: into preset floppy-sized parts (360K through 1.44M) or a custom size,
into a specified number of parts, or even divided based on the transfer
time at a given baud rate so that you'll know how long a file will take
to transfer via modem. Splitit95 supports drag-and-drop file operations
and is available through the right-mouse context menu, so files can be
rejoined quickly. It's one of the best utilities in this category, and
it's hard to beat the price! [FREE]

http://www.gallicrow.co.uk/Imprint.html
Imprint is a windows utility that allows users to print text files,
including programers' source files, html documents, ASA (Fortran) output
etc. Imprint can also be used for sending postscript and binary files directly
to a printer. This is particularly useful for printing ".prn" files, created
using the "Print to file" option in many applications.
Features include:
Easy control of which printer the files will be printed from, the paper
size and whether to print in landscape or portrait.
Any font, of any size, known to the computer can be used to print the
files. Several files can selected and printed at once.
Preview of how many lines are in the current file, and how many pages
it will take to print it. Postscript and binary files are automatically
recognized. An optional header printed at the top of each page shows the
name of the file, the page number
and the date &time that the file was created, last modified &
printed (or a subset of these). Line numbers can be displayed.
The maximum number of lines per page can be set, for example to a round
number. 2-up and 4-up printing is supported.
The lines can be printed with single, one and a half, or double spacing.
Useful for leaving space for annotations or corrections.
The margins at the top, bottom, left and right of each page can be
changed. ASA control sequence output, as used by many Fortran programs,
can be handled. Comments in C++ source files can be highlighted, making
them stand out from the code.
Tab characters can be replaced with any number of spaces. Files can
be dragged and dropped onto the Imprint icon.
