Abraham
Traphagen
ca 1779 - 1848

braham Traphagan was born about 1779 in Bergen County, New
Jersey. He is possibly the Abraham Traphagen listed as living in Essex County, New Jersey
in the 1793 Census of New Jersy, reconstructed from militia lists. He died July 29, 1848
in Vinton County, Ohio and is buried in Shiloh Cemetery.
He married in April 11, 1805 at the
Shawangunk Reformed Dutch Church Esther (Hester) Tiers, baptised
at the Montgomery German Reformed Church May 12,1782, the daughter of Jacob and Anna
(Butters) Tears.
They settled in the area of New
Hurley, Ulster County for a few years before Abraham puchased land in 1812 at Dryden in
that part of Cayuga County, New York that later was set off into Tompkins County. He sold
this land and removed to Springfield township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania before 1830.
He removed to Richland township, Jackson (now Vinton) County, Ohio before 1840.
Children of Abraham and Esther (Tears) Traphagen:
- Catherine Doremus, baptised January 26, 1806 New Hurley
Dutch Church. She married Morris Kain in February, 1825 in Syracuse, New York.
- Hannah, born June 27,1808 New Hurley, New York. She
never married.
- Albert, born June 2, 1809 (?) in New York.
- Alexander, born November 16, 1817 in Cayuga County, New
York.
- Jane, born about 1818 in New York and married Calvin C
Merrit October 1, 1835 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
- Charles William. born Febraury 11, 1820.
- James J., March 10, 1822. He never married.
- Mary, born June 1, 1823 and died October 25, 1860. She
married a Hurch,
- Harriett, born Febraury 9, 1825, Tompkins County, New
York. She married Orin Perry Pratt September 29, 1842 in Jackson County, Ohio.
