Rose

Today is a day, filled with glee
For lucky am I the one to be
Blessed with the gift of wonderful love
Convinced that it was spawned from above.

Her name is Judy, she knows me not
For I am the dowager that time forgot.
Her name is Rose and so is her hair.
I'd give her my heart in vain despair.

I met her in school
As we fondled each others toes
My fantasy so secret..
Nobody knows.

As we chuckled, joked and jested
Only in her bosom…
Would I be rested.

We had disagreements, even some lies,
But as time goes on… my anger dies.
And forgiveness does await,
Tossing away anger's awful fate.

I asked her to go with me
To the junior high grad
The answer she gave me…
Made my heart sad.

I'll not be there the answer she gave.
I thought this would send me
Straight to my grave.

I went to the grad…
And saw her there.
I turned and walked,
I just didn't care.
I talked to a friend,
He said, "Ask her to dance."
I thought if I did this…
I'd mess my pants.

And so through the summer,
I just sat and sobbed.
The feeling she gave me,
My heart had been robbed.

Finally, it came
September 1982
I thought…for me…
There's nothing to do.

Football for jocks,
Computers for brains
Nothing for me…
Just sentimental pains.

And now that I've reminisced,
This love long passed…
I don't think this poem should continue to last.
