Why is it so important to tell the truth
It's something we've been told since
our youth
I have a few reasons I've learned from my past
And a way to be truthful
and trusted at last
It wasn't too long ago when I used to lie
To get out
of trouble or to just pacify
When asked a question and didn't want to tell
I'd
simply tell a lie, and figured all would be well
After telling a few lies
to get out of another
You find your stories are running over each other
You
get backed in a corner and don't know what to say
If someone knows that you're
lying, they won't go away
You get all tense and angry inside
You may start
to explode and lose any pride
If only you'd told the truth from the start
You'd
never feel shame telling it from the heart
The truth may sometimes be hard
to tell
But a lie will even be harder to sell
By telling the truth you cannot
be wrong
For then you'll be singing the same old song
Getting out of a
lie is the hardest thing to do
So don't get into the habit, simply be true
Your
conscience will remain clean and unspoiled
And the story you've told cannot be
foiled
