Frederick Kleineick was reared in East Prussia. He went to college in Germany to learn a trade, cabinet making. He had two years of military school, which was compulsory. he fought in a war for seven years (for Prussia) and had scars from his hips down, due to riding horses in battles. His father was a wealthy merchant in Germany, and they had passes to travel through foreign countries to trade. The boys, Frederick and Peter, borrowed passes from their father to get out of the country to come to the U.S.A.. Frederick came to Kentucky and Peter went to California. Frederick followed the sawmills from place to place, following his trade. He belonged to the Masons.
As told to Margie Read Bishop by Ruble Kleineik Blakemore.
