| When Sammy and Mika got to the store they saw an animal
called a Chanella. Its scent was like perfume [No. 5 perhaps?]. The
Chanella had a hypnotic effect on children. The woman at the store
said they could take one and pay whenever they wanted.
| Luna told Serena that she couldn't succeed in making Sammy
like her. Serena lectured Luna, saying that Luna was always telling her
to try harder. When Sammy came in Luna approached him slowly, meowing
like a cute cat, but Sammy kicked Luna away. He said that he had his
own pet now and yelled at Serena to get rid of that cat. Serena burst into
tears.
| Serena was upset that Sammy had hurt Luna and said that
she was sorry for what Sammy did. Luna said she was okay.

| At tea, their mother said that the Chanella had a nice smell.
Sammy said that Chanella don't need to eat, and his father was
happy that it was so economical. Their parents said they could
keep both pets but Sammy didn't want Luna to stay.
| The next morning, Serena told Sammy he was going to be late for
school, but he said he wasn't going. Serena peeked into his room and
saw that he was just staring at his Chanella. Serena left for school,
passing some subliminal advertising along the way.
| At school, many of the kids had Chanella's. Serena and Molly
couldn't understand why they were so popular. Serena saw that Miss
Haruna was coming so all the students hid their Chanellas.

| Finally one of the schoolgirls couldn't stand it any longer and
burst out screaming that she had to see her Chanella. Miss Haruna
was furious and threatened to confiscate the animal, but the student
shoved Miss H. away. All of the students who had Chanellas got up
and left the class.
| After class Serena and Molly were talking about how weird everyone was acting.
Molly said that the Chanella were sold
at a store called Perphume. Serena asked Molly to go to the
store with her but Molly had to go to cram school. Serena found
the store and had a creepy feeling. She wondered if she would
end up brain-washed like Sammy.
| Hey Meatball Head! Serena turned around to see Darien. She
complained that he was always popping up in front of her but Darien
insisted it was she who was always popping up in front of him. He
asked if she was actually going to buy one of those Chanellas.
Serena demanded why she shouldn't and Darien said that the scent
of perfume wouldn't suit her. Serena stormed off into the store.
