THE BOARTAL

The Boartal was once two separate caves. The Portal which has one entrance and 6 miles of surveyed passage and The Boar Hole. The Boar Hole has two entrances and 4 miles of surveyed passage. In December of 2002, an on-going dig project in the cave produced paydirt. The dig was completed and the two caves were connected. The dig passage is 150 feet long and averages 10 inches in height. Hence the name Boartal. The Portal side of the cave has a 15-foot nuisance rappel and an area called the Low-Wet. Beyond these the cave has walking passage. The Boar Hole side of the system has a very friendly walking passage called Boaring Blvd. Getting to the connection passage entails route finding through breakdown and lots of crawling.
