BENEDICTS CAVE
Benedicts Cave is located in West Virginia. It is one of the contact caves of the Great Savannah. The system has two entrances with 14 miles of surveyed passage. The Benedicts entrance is a low, miserable stream crawl in large cobble stones for 800 feet. After the entrance, the cave continues as large walking passage. The Persinger entrance to the system is a very tight squeeze which soon leads to walking passage. There are two different passages that will lead to Benedicts from the Persinger side. One is a narrow stream canyon which eventually turns into a crawl in the water and the other is a high, dry passage that leads to the top of a 35-foot rappel. If you choose the high and dry route to connect the two entrances, you are in for a big surprise. Below the drop, the stream passage stays large but eventually you are confronted with a section in the stream where your entire body must be submersed in a low water crawl to proceed.
