I had a struggle to find pictures of healthy uteri and ovaries after I was diagnosed with fibroids and ovarian cysts. All I could find were drawings. I don't know, perhaps I'm not as easily grossed out by these things, but there needs to be more out there of what actual things in our bodies look like!!!!! Thanks for having this site. I had an operative laparoscopy two days ago, and I'm beginning to feel like myself again. My Dr. has found at least two very large fibroids (po sibly more) that need to be removed asap. I'm 33 years old and trying very hard to have a family. Obviously, these fibroids are causing a lot of the problems I'm having. I've always had extremely painful periods, but never suspected fibroids to be the ause. In the past few months, I've had a number of procedures performed (Histerosalpingogram, culposcopy, endo biopsy), and just now this laparoscopy, which was the first time I've ever had any type of surgery done. I'm writing you just to let you know hat your site does help those of us that are apprehensive and anxious about the treatment for uterine fibroids. As I write now, I am seeking as much information as possible about the myemectomy I will be having in January of 2000. Having experienced a l ttle complication with my bladder this time around, I am very nervous and more than a little scared about having major surgery performed. I am not finished looking through it and have already found a lot of wonderful help. I found out in May that I have a fibroid and will have a myo on Aug 27. The symtoms I have appear to be more of the severe type and wa wondering what to expect after the surgery. Also, I have been trying to conceive for more than 2 years and I have found hope through your page that there may still be hope! My only fear is that when the papers are signed and the surgery is started that t e doctor will do the hysterectomy instead of the myo, just because it is easier. thanks again, I'll continue to read and learn! It was especially scary for me as I found Dr. Toaff on the Internet in Philadelphia (I live in England) I was told categorically that removal of my fibroids (20 wk Size) was impossible. My GPs p rting shot to me was "well of course that surgery has a mortality rate" So with no recommendation other than Dr. Toaff's, and no health insurance in case anything went wrong, I trotted off to put myself in the hands of a complete stranger who was going ag inst the tide of opinion. Lucky for me it was the best thing I ever did, even tho I am the ripe old age of 48, I am happy not to be plunged into a freefall menopause.
