Mountain
Camp 2000 SNOWDONIA
May 2000
What did you do last Easter ?
We went off to Snowdonia for six days fun in the Mountains.
Seven Scouts took five Leaders with them to learn about the mountains, do
some dead good climbs and scrambles and basically have a load of fun, sometimes
in the sun!
The
ability to perform any sort of activity in this environment is entirely dependant
upon the conditions you find, and often, the conditions which develop while
on the hill.
We left Cookham in the early hours of Thursday with a few thoughts about routes
we'd like to attempt, if the group were up to it and the weather kind.
Scouts
attending this year were all PLs and APLs, and did they have some fun!
Chris, Tom and David led the PL contingent whilst Glenn, Ian, Gareth and Sean
made up the APL numbers.
The qualified mountain leaders this year were Rob, Mike, Gill and Andrew.
We
managed to negotiate major routes over Tryfan, the Glyders and The Snowdon Horseshoe.
We also indulged in some 'lower level' work on navigation, steep ground security,
bouldering, use of radios and a Mountain Rescue (a real one with a very big
yellow helicopter!)
