Mountain Camp '99
The Lake District - WASTWATER

So yet again we managed to survive the rigours of the mountains! (or did we?)

Easter saw us venture into the mountains once more.
10 scouts, followed by 5 Leaders, took part in Mountain Camp '99 and survived to tell the tale.

This year we travelled to Wastwater and stopped once again at a Youth Hostel. Full board, plenty of heating and comfy beds.
We were lucky once again. The YHA was great, the warden a laugh, the food wonderful and we even managed separate rooms for the Leaders and (luckily) the smelly Scouts!

Blest with the highest mountains in England and some of the toughest terrain you could shake a stick at we were all set.
The only slight problem was the lack of a minibus at 6.00pm Wednesday night!
A brief scramble, heated exchanges of words and a bargin deal later we were eventually set.
5.00am on Thursday morning (a lie in for Rob & Neil) the Leaders were drinking coffee and preparing for the long drive ahead. A while later the Scouts got up ~ not waking up until around mid day ~ and made it the 20 or so feet from bed to the minibus. All loaded we set off, made it past Birmingham without too much delay and found Ambleside by late morning. A quick gear shop later we made our way through the Hardknott and Wrynose passes - just the odd 1 in 1 hair-pin bend. Fortunately the minibus and passengers both made it and soon we were at the base of Yewbarrow, Wasdale Head for our warm up route.
