I recieve many questions about the Adams Family, and many of them are all too familiar. It Seems everyone wants to know the same things. So in response to numerous email requests and questions on the Message Board, I have created this page to answer The Most Frequently Asked Questions:

• What is The Addams Family Address?
  The Addams family had many addresses on the show. The one most idely used, however, was 0001 Cemetary Lane. No State or country was ever given and this was on purpose. the idea was to make you feel as if the Addams Family could have been in ANY neighborhood. Speculation, however, is that it is based on Charles Addams childhood home in Westfield, New Jersey. ( See the Charles Addams Biography)

• Who is The Lady Colyton?
  Lady Colyton is the center of all things Addamsish. According to Jolly old England she was one of Charles Addams wifes and a main force behind many of the grants, museum bequests and at least one college hall named after him.  (see http://www.upenn.edu/almanac/v43/n25/fire.html ).
  According to the current Exhibition at the Charles Addams Gallery (Third Floor), Humanities and Social Sciences Library, Drawings by Charles Addams: Adventures in Science and Exploration(September 10, 1999-January 29, 2000):

"The drawings on view reveal Charles Adams's singular interpretation of the
unexpected, sometimes perilous, and often bizarre discoveries and adventures
of scientists and explorers. This ongoing, rotating selection of drawings by
Addams features many which appeared in The New Yorker. Drawings by Charles
Addams were donated to the Library by The Lady Colyton and Marilyn Addams.
Their care and exhibition are supported by an endowment established through a
gift from The Lady Colyton."
I was once told she was the lady who made sure that the image presented of the Addams Family by shows, cartoons and the movies remained true to the original Charles Addams prints.  I know his first and second wifes were both named Barbara, but that he had divorced both before the original show aired. Could this be Tee Addams alter ego, or another wife he had during the original show?

• Can you contact Cast members for me?// Can you get me an email address?
  While I understand fans wanting access to their favoritet stars, I truely believe they deserve their own privacy. While I HAVE been in contact with some of the cast members of the New Addams Family show and have regular contact with quite a few of them, I will not divulge their addresses, nor contact them for you. If you have a mesage for one of the cast members, I suggest you leave it at the Lurch Files Message Board. Regulars here know that the Cast members show up quite frequently and are most happy to answer your questions there. Please understand and acknowledge they are people too and need a private life!!

• What is Morticia's maiden name?
  Morticia's maiden name is "FRUMP" the Frumps have a history almost as large and varied as the Addamses. In fact it looks as if their might be quite a bit of inbreeding between the two families. This can be seen in Episodes 36. and 37 ( part 1 and 2 of "Morticia's Romance") It seems Morticia's sister, Ophelia, was betrothed to Gomez, and Morticia to Cousin Vlaad ( New Addams Family show) by their mother, Hester Frump. The Addams Family Reunion even has Granmama as a Frump! ( Take this bit of information as you will. I prefer to think of that movie as an alter Addams Universe. Their are WAYY to many inconsistancies to think otherwise.. but I digress...)

• Why dont you have any of Charles Addams Cartoons on The Lurch Files? I thought this site was for Everything Addams!
  While I would LOVE to use some of the cartoons here, Unfortunately, the New Yorker magazine has all copyrights to their use. If I were to place them on this site, I open the Lurch Files to Copyright infringement. I am currently trying to contact them about using a few here, but until the legal aspects are worked out, I am afraid I cannot use them. There are a few sites which use the cartoons now, but they use them illegally.

• How did the Addams Family make its Fortune?
  This is a loaded question as it is NEVER truely revealed jsut how the family came by its moonetary gain completely. You might as well ask "How does Mr. Ed speak?" or "Why did everyone aboard the SS Minnow take suitcases of clothes on a three hour tour?" We do know that, with the exception of Cousin Itt, no Addams Family member has seriously worked for over two hundred years!
  There are a few items we can use to ascertain a couple of possibilities however;
  A: Ticker Tape machines throughout the house reveal that Gomez is an expert investor. He is also know to back major enterprises.
  B: Great-Grandfather Pegleg Addams was a pirate. He ammassed quite a treasure before being made to walk the plank.
  C: Ol' Ebenezer Addams led early settlers across the Plains and sold guns to the indians.
  D: Grand-uncle Drisley was a traitor but he did it only for the money.
  Examples of different ways they ammased the fortune are strewn throughout the show, you just have to watch to get them all.

• Is Lurch a family member?
  This is a question that I seem to get all the time. the answer is... YES.... and NO.
  Biologically, Lurch has a mother (episode 17). His last name, according to the show is Lurch. Whats his first name? Well, he is like Cher.. He only has a surname.
  If you were to ask any of the family however, you would get quite a different answer. Lurch has been around since the begining. ( In fact, he predates Gomez in the original Addams Cartoons) As such, the Addams family has practically adopted him as one of their own. He is listed in the family will. He cares for and treats all family members as if they were his own.
  To say that Lurch is NOT a family member is as if saying all adopted people have no family of their own.
  (According to the Addams Family Reunion, Lurch does have the heart of an Addams.. literally, But again take it for what its worth!!)

• Where can I get Addams Family Videos//Memorabilia?
  While memorabilia is getting scarce you can try TVtoys.com or other collectables pages. To get videos or Laser Discs, try Borders.com or Total E.

• How does Uncle Fester Light his Bulb? Do you have any pictures of this?
  In the show, Fester has an "Electric Personality" HE is able to cinduct electricity through his body. Thsi allows him to power some of his experiments, Gomez's train set, and of course, light a bulb in his mouth.
  In reality, the actor portryaing Fester would put a prop lightbulb in his mouth. This prob had a small bulb powered by a small battery. There were two contacts on the bottom of the bulb. When pressed at the same time by the actors tongue, the contacts would completed a circuit to the low voltage bulb and light up. This method of using small contacts and body parts is used to power many different toys available on the market today.
  As far as pictures are concerned, their are many pictures of this strewn throuhout the Lurch Files. Check the Pictures section and Festers Biogarphy in the cast section.

• Who is Webmaster Itt? Are you related to Charles Addams?
  I am Webamster Itt. My name is Ahijah Adams (with one "d") I am married and have three wonderful chidren. Currently I work for Sprint as a Network Translations engineer. Previously, I was in the United States Air Force.
  The Lurch Files began life as a way for me to teach myself HTML while I was stationed at the Pentagon.
  My job there was to answer trouble calls on communication circuits. I worked the Midnight shift.
  Normally, there were no problems to note during that time span ( Most everybody was at home during that shift.) Thsi made for boring nights either watching the latest video or surfing the web. I thought I would teach myself something of worth and make use of the waste of time I had there until I could get out of the military and do what I was treained to do in the first place.
  My timing must have been impeccable, because soon after, News came out that a New Addams Family Show would be airing on a new Network. As people looked for information, the Lurch Files got new fans. It went from 300 hits that first month November 1998, to over 3,000 in October 1999.
  I am not related to Charles Addams that I know of. In fact, Up until I grauated High School, I wished that Charles and his ficticious family had never been brought to light ( Every one I knew had to pass me in halls snapping their fingers and singing the song. ) It wasnt until I watched the show with a friend that I got an appreciation for its content. I have been hooked ever since. So much so that I take pride now whenever anyone sings that familiar show tune!!
