About me:
I am a very complex person. I do have spastic diplegia cerebral
palsy, but that's only a small part of me. I do not define myself as a
disabled person; I am a person first, and one who just happens to have a
disability. It is because of this attitude, I believe, that I have had so much
success in my life.
I am a senior in high school, applying to colleges and such. I am either going to Harvard (yes, I was accepted), Washington University, or Ohio State University. I had a rhizotomy three and a half years ago at St. Louis Children's Hospital, which changed my life. I walk unassisted, and drive a normal car. I do wear shoe orthotics, and walk with a limp, but those are the only tangible parts of my disability.
I go to Rocky River High School, and I have been completely mainstreamed in the Rocky River Schools ever since kindergarten. I am taking Calculus BC AP, Physics AP, English 12 AP, Band, Newspaper and Music Technology. I have played the flute since 5th grade, and I love it! I am in my school's pep, concert, and marching band. I am also the editor of our school newspaper, The Pirate Press. I love writing!
I also love music. I have over 200 CD's, and over 100 tapes. Yes, I am slightly addicted to music. :) My favorite groups are REM, Morrissey/The Smiths, Blur, Radiohead, Duran Duran, They Might Be Giants, Howard Jones, Thompson Twins, Go-Go's, Suede, Echobelly. I also love THE EIGHTIES! In fact, my website is devoted to their memory. Currently I have discovered Tori Amos' debut 'Little Earthquakes', and it's a phenomenal album. I like TV too. Especially South Park, the BITING satire of political correctness, Beavis and Butt-head, The Drew Carey Show, M2 on MTV, Lois & Clark....I think that's about it. I dont have time to watch much TV anymore. I love reading, also. Psychology books mostly, but some real-life books about relationships and such, sports books, etc. I like sleeping, too, though I dont do much of it. :)
I am a quirky person. I collect strange T-shirts, culled from garage sales and such. I have contacts now, so my senior picture up there is out of date. I can find songs to sing in almost everything people say; it's quite amusing to annoy people with that talent. :) Even more so because I am a terrible singer! Favorite quote: "We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are." --from the Talmud
