THE PARTY

She was a little girl...her face locked in a smile
She was a social butterfly,
the center around which the elementary school world revolved.
She was locked in a wheelchair...they all were,
and everyone came to the party.

She was a kid...the smile appeared only occasionally now.
She sat in the corner looking longingly as kids chattered away,
Sarah, come to my sleep over,
Kathy, did you see that movie?,
Danielle, come sit over here.
All she could do was sit...slowly other misfits came to sit too.
The fat kids
the stupid kids
the plain weird kids
and just the kids that no one liked.
And they all went to the party together

She is a young lady...the smile almost completely faded.
The adults think she is great.
"You have such a great mind," they say
"You are so compassionate."
"You have helped me more than words can say" they say
The kids think she is..
"so nice"
"helpful"
"a compassionate friend"
So, tell me why does no one come to the party??
