MY CAR PAGE

This corner of my website is for Automotive enthusiasts. My interest is primarily in street driven performance, but I enjoy racing of all kinds.

I'm basically a Hotrodder. I've loved working on cars since before I was old enough to drive, and I believe in modifying everything. A friend of mine in High School had an impressive '69 (I think) SS Camaro with an LT1 and twin Holley 750 carbs! I'll never forget the day we started working on the carbs the first time. None of us really knew what we were doing, but his dad had a lot of experience and kind of pointed us in the right direction when we got stuck.

Another friend had a screaming yellow Vega panel wagon, done up in what would have been called Pro-Street if the term had been coined in the Seventies. It was tubbed and stuffed with a built-to-the-gills 35O. Definitely unique at the time...

Click on the thumbnail images below to view a larger one (I'm trying to keep the filesize down, some of these started out as 3008x2008!).

My first car (which I still have) was a 1976 Chevy Monza 2+2, which basically is a Vega with better looking bodywork. Not many people even know what a Monza is anymore, which is a shame because they had some neat features.

These two shots will give you a better idea of what the Monza looked like the day I got it (in 1978) and how it looked before the first repaint (amazing what you can do with a few spraycans!).

My favorite part about the car is the reaction I get when I pop the hood (imagine how much fun it is to change the plugs on this puppy!). Yes, that is a built 355 (.030 over 350 SBC). Crane 350/327 cam, Clevite everywhere, ARP rod bolts, Melling oil pump, double-roller chain, 2.02 heads, and everything else I could think of... Yes, the A/C works.

Here's a taste of the 3-chamber 2.25" Flowmasters. This was recorded directly into my Toshiba notebook. Totally Digital!

If clicking on those ".ra " files results in an error message, you DO NOT have the RealAudio (now RealPlayer) plug-in. Here's where to get RealPlayerPlus. You can get a free trial version that is good enough to play these files (and after you mess with it for a while you'll want the full version).

Here's a link to more in-depth info on the car for the really bored.

For more information on Monzas or other "H-body" cars visit The H07 Registry .

Special thanks to them for getting us our OWN NEWSGROUP! Visit: alt.autos.gm.monza-hspecial if your news server carries it. Unfortunately it's almost dead now since we've all migrated over to V8 Monza>

Monzas were famous on the I.M.S.A racing circuit back in the late seventies (and are still popular in S.C.C.A. racing today).

Revved Out Racing Motorsports has an excellent site (and a very nice looking racecar). The closest I've ever been to racing mine was a few years ago when I had a chance to run a S.O.L.O II course. It was a blast!

WHERE'S MY HELMET!!!!!!!

(In the back seat where it always is!)

The Monza GT Registry has another excellent site dealing with racing Monzas (which I'm beginning to think outnumber the good ones left on the street). I wonder if anybody has a spare Mirage kit laying around anywhere...

A new site dedicated to V8 Monzas is Bob Gumm's "Building a V8 Monza" page.

Another racing site is "Pleasant Lake Motorsports". They have a neat Quicktime video of the legendary Al Holbert givin' those Porsches hell!

Here's a V8 Vega Wagon project page.

If you know of a Monza Club in the Southeast please e-mail me with the information, or pass my web location along.

My second car (which I also still have) is a 1971 Camaro. It started out as a $100.00 basketcase. I'll have some more pictures soon, and a link out to the "nuts and bolts" info.

I painted those stripes myself, kids!

Of course, the Built 327 in the Camaro is a sweet sounding engine too...

I'm currently getting the Camaro back on the road after a few years in storage. After a new fuel tank and carb, electric pump and some other goodies. Needed a new radiator so I decided to " modernize " it a little.

New three-core rad, twin 13" electric fans, and some Aluminum pulleys I had laying around...

New Moroso chrome valve covers and air cleaner. Some header paint and a patch panel where it rusted out under the battery. New Autometer gauges. Sooooo many projects, so little time...

For more Camaro information see: "The Second Generation Camaro Home Page".

My third car (which no longer exists except in photos) was a 1966 6 volt VW beetle I called Von-Wreckedoften (get it?). I only have one or two shots of the bug, and they're all "before" material (I didn't have it long enough to do much with it).

My 1989 rare 5-speed Pontiac Grand Prix SE. Being a hot-rodder to the core I just couldn't leave it totally stock, but there weren't really a lot of things that needed changing. After 11 years and 140,000 miles I sold it to my next-door neighbor. Last I heard the guy THEY sold it to is still driving it.

Mom's Teal 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. She runs it to death! As of this writing it has all of 37,000 miles on it! Still has the original floormats in it. In fact she keeps a towel on the front passenger one so people won't track dirt in her car! Funny thing is she'll take it to the garden shops and load the trunk until the rear spring sags!

Pop's two-year-old 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. Leather, On*, XM, Monsoon. Everything but a supercharger! Not bad for an 83-year-old Grandpa! It just turned 4700 miles...

My current Grand Prix is a 1999 GTP. It ROCKS! I wanted a GTP when I bought the '89. It isn't stock either. I've added a bunch of mods and there are more to come.

One of my trademarks is aftermarket driving lights. The Monza has them, the Camaro has them, and the '89 had them (it was a PAIN to put them in the lower chin grilles on the '89). Naturally the '99 GTP has them too. 55W Hellas (550s) on a wireless remote system. 110 Watts of night driving goodness!

Newest mod: Lund hood scoops! As always I did something different. I didn't like the plastic grille inserts that came with them, so I bought a pair of the factory chin grilles from a guy on ClubGP and cut them up to make it look a little more "factory".

I've found a wealth of Grand Prix information at Grand Prix Net and they've been kind enough to add a link to MY site!

You should see a control panel and hear a MIDI tune. If not you may need to get a plug-in and/or enable Java.

Of course the tune is by RUSH " Red Barchetta " . Is there a better old car tune? I think not.
