My R/C Airplane Page

Well, I've done it now. I've always been interested in R/C airplanes ever since I watched my neighbor build up newspaper-and-balsa airplanes when I was 6 (yeah, that was a long time ago). As is the case with all my other R/C "toys", none of my planes will be "normal".

I have a few $5.00 WalMart gliders being converted into R/C airplanes. I bought three, one's for spares.

This thing has turned out to be an interesting project. Unfortunately, at 14 oz., it's a little heavy for the Wattage B2 gear to push it. On the other hand I DO have a speed 400 laying around here somewhere...

Here's the rest of the "Foamie Squadron":

The two on the left are Robart free-flight gliders, an F-16 and an F-117, and the strange blue thing on the right is called a "Sky Shark". Many have had success converting these to E-power, and I figure I can't go too far wrong. One of these days I hope to learn to actually FLY these things!

On the back burner, rebuilding the Wattage B2 and some "upscale" versions:

Past project: The "Plastic-Tiny"

The "Tiny" is a balsa, carbon-fiber, and mylar model from Todds Models.

As I never build anything "normal", MY Tiny was built entirely of pink foam and carbon fiber. No wood!

Motor and prop taped on for effect.

That last shot makes me think: Tiny Combat anyone?

I thought the red wingtips might help me see the thing.

Here's the finished plane.

Unfortunately this Tiny turned out WAY too heavy to fly. I'm not totally bummed about it though. It was a good exercise in building and other than my time all I wasted was some pink foam and a little covering. I've since scavenged the gear from it and hung the airframe on the wall (one day I'll need the CF tubing and I'll shred it, but that day is NOT today!

You should see a control panel and hear a MIDI tune. If not you may need to get a plug-in and/or enable Java.

Of course the tune is from "Monty Pythons Flying Circus".
