In the past 24 hours I have been sent over 150 E_mail messages from Ethiopians regarding Reuters coverage of the Eritrea/Ethiopia conflict. Some of them were articulate and full of praise for our coverage. Some of them were critical of our coverage. A good many were abusive rants which I did not bother reading beyond the first invective.
I appreciate your concern and admire your ability to mobilise such strong sentiment into action. For you information, I have also been sent hundreds of E_mail messages from Eritreans -- some polite, some positive, some negative and some abusive. I have engaged one or two people from both sides in further discussion -- either because they had a valid point or because I wanted to correct a misunderstanding on their part. I can assure you that neither the volume nor verbosity of these E_mails has in any way influenced our coverage of the story which, I believe, has been fair, balanced and accurate. If we have made an error in reporting, it has been corrected as soon as we have been made aware of it.
