The United Nations Security Council has demanded an immediate end to the border conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea, and called on both sides to seek a peaceful solution.
It urged them to cooperate with the Organisation of African Unity's mediation attempts.
In a unanimously adopted resolution, the council also established a trust fund to pay for any eventual UN mission to demarcate the border between the two countries.
The BBC UN correspondent says that privately, some Council diplomats are calling the resolution hopelessly bland, and question why the Council is not taking a higher profile in solving the dispute.
