Eritrean president Isiais Afewerki has written to his counterpart, Elias Hrawi, explaining his position on the bloody conflict with neighbouring Ethiopia which erupted on May 6.
“I handed president Hrawi a letter from president Afewerki in which he explained Eritrea’s point of view on how to solve this conflict peacefully,” Ali Said Abdallah, the Eritrean trade and industry minister, said after flying to Beirut for a brief meeting with Hrawi yesterday.
“We are trying to facilitate the mediation of the Organisation for African Unity to reach a peaceful solution and we are seeking a similar role from Arab countries,” he added without elaborating.
