Cottage Reference Explained

Introduction:

This document will explain how and where the cottage detail information was obtained. Some of the information presented here is debatable as it's correctness. Every effort is being made to verify each piece of information. That said, there are over 900 web pages with 500+ graphics.

Thumbnail Picture Size:

The pictures on this site are from many sources, therefore they are different sizes. Any picture which is extremely wide or tall will appear squashed in one direction. Select view more pictures above the thumbnail to view the pictures in full size.

On the "Additional Pictures" page you will notice many missing pictures. There is space for 5 pictures per cottage. When more server space is obtained, the goal will be to have pictures of all 4 sides and the bottom stamp. Some pieces currently have more than one picture. Missing pictures are denoted by the browsers missing picture symbol.

Secondary Pricing:

Current pricing was obtained from just a couple of dealer sources on the Internet. This pricing appears to be somewhat high. The current plan is to adjust this as more accurate pricing is determined.

Once a standard pricing source is determined, all prices will be adjusted. The method of calculating these prices will be reported here.

Manufacture's Code Number:

This number is important to the indexing of this web site, therefore when there was no number available, one was created. This was done in the following method:

Actual manufacture numbers:

John Hine/Media Arts numbers were specified as 4 digits - 0810

Enesco numbers start with a "D" followed by 4 digits - D1264

Numbers created for use on this web site:

When either of the 2 manufactures created mould variations, they usually did not assign a new Mfg #. To resolve this issue on this web site a lower case letter was added at the end of the part number - 0810a or D1264a

To further complicate matters, early John Hine pieces did not have numbers or the numbers were lost. Therefore on this site the pieces are numbered as follows - DW0100. Each of these numbers was created starting with DW followed by 4 digits, starting at 0100 and moving upward.

Size:
Size measurements were converted to decimal to the nearest 1/8th of an inch. The following should help: 1/8" = .13"; 3/8" = .38"; 5/8" = .63"; 7/8" = .88"

Hopefully the above information will be useful while viewing this web site.
