Dear Sir:
Reference is made to your letter in
which you request information in regard to John Bradshaw,
soldier of the Revolutionary War, born 1759 died 1834 in
Pocahontas County, West Virginia.
The data furnished herein were
obtained from the papers on file in pension claim, S. 6738,
based upon the service of John Bradshaw in the War of the
Revolution.
He was born February 2, 1759, place
not stated, nor are the name of his parents given.
While residing in Monroe County,
Virginia, John Bradshaw served as an Indian Spy in Captain
Henderson's company of Virginia militia, as follows:
In 1776, six months; in 1777, six
and one half months; in 1778, six and one half months; in 1779,
six months; they were stationed at Cooks Fort on Indian Creek,
and were scouting in the mountains between New River and Laurel
Creek.
While residing in Augusta County,
Virginia, John Bradshaw enlisted sometime in January, 1781,
served three months as sergeant in Captain Thomas Hicklen's
company, Colonel Sampson Matthew's Virginia regiment, and was in
a skirmish near Portsmouth, Virginia. He server later in

| Hicklen's company, Colonel
Samuel Vance's Virginia regiment, was at the Siege of Yorktown,
and guarded the British prisoners to Winchester barracks.
The soldier, John Bradshaw, was
allowed pension on his application executed May 7, 1833, then a
resident of Pocahontas County, Virginia. He died in
December, 1834.
The papers in this claim contain no
reference to the family soldier.
