'Very well.' The king says. 'One week ago, the court mage, a very capable man, thought that
he had detected something at the Onyx Tower. He is unsure what is going on- he used his magic
to search it, he did not actually go there. Communications between our side of the High Barrier
and the other have never been good, so we sent our own scouts. Only one has returned.'
You swallow nervously as you anticipate the King's next few sentences.
'Sir Nichols, I need you to find out what is happening. If there is to be another invasion, we
must know about it and ready ourselves. The one scout that returned had managed to go as far as
the town of Lein. It was completely deserted, except for a wizard, who chased him away in a
rather violent manner. Our scout is still recovering. You need to go to Lein and find out what is
happening. Then, return here and tell us. We must not be surprised.'
You speak up. 'Your Majesty, who will be coming with me on this mission?'
'One person shall accompany you. You may choose whomever you want, but we do not want
to attract attention to your travels, so you may only take one person.'
You nod your understanding and exit the throne room.
As you walk through the corridors of Allenton's keep, you wonder who you will take with
you.
Shila is a friend of yours, and a member of the order of clerics that managed to stop the
Onyx invasion the first time around. While you possess rudimentary healing skills,
hers are a great deal more powerful.
