THIS MORNING When I woke up this morning I saw you sleeping there beside me As you have done so many nights before But this morning the sun danced freely Across your smiling face And I wondered what happiness Lingered inside your sleeping mind. Was it the thoughts of things to come? Was it the fun we had this past week? Or anticipating this mornings golf game? What was it that made you smile so sweetly? Dreaming the dreams of the contented With the face of a child, hair tossled And cheeks flushed with nights slumber? Could it have been thoughts of your birthday Soon to come with gifts and friends to share? Could it have been the coming holidays When we will watch our grandchildren play? What was it that made me stop and gaze down And stand watching you as you slept This morning? Was it knowing we were once again an US ? BGD 11-9-98©
