TODAY I LOOKED FOR SPRING bgd 4-81 I was walking around my yard today looking for spring. I found it first in the tiny pussy willow, Gray fur like beds swaying in the April breeze. I stopped then by the wild rose, growing tall and thick, With thorns sharp and protect of tomorrow's leaf. The new formed buds that will bloom to reds and pinks, Tomorrow's lovely summer roses. The red maple stands, towering above my head. I remember "yesterday" when I brought it from the woods, a twig Today it is adorned with a million bright red blossoms, That will shade me from the heat of summers blazing sun. The peach trees stand ready for the moment With they will give birth to the tender pale pick buds, Later to be sweet juicy fruit come fall. Or did winter kill these children of tomorrow's dream of jam. I hauled away the corpse of out loving Christmas tree, Left at the edge of the garden awaiting springs arrival. Beneath it, in the shadows, protected from the snow of winter A dozen baby onions sprout, memories of last years crop.
