The Heng

A few years ago at my computer camp, I decided to animate the scene from Gunnm where the Heng fires at Tiphares. I spent too much time modelling, and ended up not finishing the animation by the end of camp. I had planned to finish the animation at home, but anyone who has been to this page in the past will attest to the fact that it has been sitting here as is for about two or three years. Maybe one day I'll return to 3D animation, but for now I haven't the time or the know-how to put anything together that I'd be proud of.

The Trains

The Trains

The trains are what took most of my time at camp. Two out of the four weeks were spent modelling the train. I mostly used GN6 for reference material, since the train featured in the beginning is of the same type as the trains Bar Jack hijacks to haul the Heng.

The Cannon

The Cannon

After taking two weeks to model the train, I was getting more and more rushed, and churned out the Heng itself in a matter of days. The detail is very much lacking in comparison. There is an unfortunately small amount of good reference material for the Heng. I could only find maybe three really good shots of the platform in GN8.

Tiphares

Tiphares

The modelling for the floating city took hardly any time at all, since it's design is pretty basic. The base is just a tapered cone that's been tapered again on one end, and jumbled up on the other. I'm not too pleased with the slope of the cone though. It's a little wider than it appears in the manga. The more I adjust it, the worse the ends look, so I think I may leave it as is. The texture also needs a bit of work. It doesn't look too good on the underside; there's a reason that it's in shadow for this shot. Fortunately there is hardly a lack of reference material for Tiphares. It's in practially every GN. Not that it really matters, because I'd seen enough of it to be able to get it by memory.

I was fiddling around with my 3D program, and I realized I needed a new Windows desktop, so I kind of threw this together. I hadn't intended to distribute it to anyone else while I was making it, so there are a few minor flaws. The background image tiles around, as can be seen in the upper left, and the coils aren't as smooth in places as they could be. I was asked by someone what the coils symbolized. This isn't symbolic of anything. It's not even fanart, really. It just looks kind of cool, and I'm using it as my desktop, and I figured others might want it. Okay!? Happy now? *sobs* Now leave me alone.

Bromden's Dice

Ok, this doesn't have anything to do with Gunnm at all. It was part of my Freshman summer reading assignment. I had to draw a picture from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and it had to include at least something hand-drawn. My drawing skills are just about nil, so this is about all you may ever see of them. The picture is of a scene in the book when the narrator, Chief Bromden, is hallucinating about being the weight in a loaded dice. I had a lot of fun making this pic. First I drew Bromden on paper. Then I scanned him in, and colored him with Photoshop. I downloaded a really simple looking craps layout from the net, rotated it, scewed it, cropped it, blew it up really big, sharpened it, and then motion blurred it. I then used 3D Studio Max2 to make the dice and put Bromden inside. I rendered that, and added the background in with Photoshop.
