As most people know, Pittsburgh is named after William Pitt. But the "Urgh" imitates the sound one makes panting for breath while climbing up the precipitous hills of the town. TRUE!

The origin of the "sb" is mysterious.

In Pittsburgh, November begins on October 14th, and ends on March 27th. This may explain why...

Pittsburgh has the highest per capita coffee consumption in the US.

There are also bars literally every 28 feet in any direction within city limits, by statute.

Pittsburgh is situated at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers, where they form the Ohio. The dramatic topograhpy is only one reason Pittsburgh is in the jam it always seems to be in.

In fact, Pittsburgh is rated 3rd in the Kafkaesque Places Rated Almanac. The Almanac cites at least 12 absurdities and outright contradictions that must be swallowed every morning with your first cup of joe, in order to live here.
