Well, we all had some kind of cake or something, and ended up sitting in this sort of offshoot room from the living room toward the front of the house. I was sitting next to the window, pretty much bored out of my mind with the mindless talk, so did a lot of looking into the front walkway. Kurt got up to go to the bathroom, and that was the last I saw of him in the room. About fifteen minutes later I caught movement over in this rhododendron bush in the corner of the house. I craned my neck around to see, and it was Kurt (of course). He had this butterfly catcher; you know, one of those net things on a handle. He was looking at me and grinning and gave me the sign to keep quiet by putting his index finger to his lips. He went to the side window which was at Don's back and started some really light taps with the net on the window. Then, I would see the net come whooshing by the window. He kept repeating this until finally Don heard the tapping sounds. Don spun around and saw Kurt crouching. He started laughing and so did I. I asked Don something like "What the heck is he doing?" Don said that you just had to know Kurt and not be surprised at anything. My sis immediately told Don to "turn around and quit ignoring the company". And, of course, Don did just that. I was starting to realize just how much jealousy and "control" was involved here. I remember being kinda embarrassed just because I was witnessing that. You know how it feels, when someone does something that embarrasses you, even though you are not part of it? Like I said, I was getting bored out of my skull, so I excused myself. I went out the back door from the kitchen and wandered around looking at flowers (I am a flower nut). Kurt was over underneath the kitchen window area and had trapped some kind of insect in the net. He was right down on the ground with his face a couple of inches from the trapped insect. I said something like "How ya doing?" He mumbled "Okay, I guess." No further words. I just stood there for a little while, then said "Well, seeya later." He just sort of grunted something, so I left him alone. I had to grin to myself, because I was realizing that this kid was "Mr. Concentration" or something! (Note: I have no idea what the exact words were in the above conversation. It has been too long. I am trying to insert what I can extrapolate the conversation might have been about, based on recall. This recall is based more on my assessment of the "feeling" of the situtation, rather than exact memory. I do, however, feel that it is an accurate interpretation of the emotional state of Kurt at the time. Please bear with me, because a lot of my recall of events is going to be based more on situations and responses, rather than exact words and phrases).
