- Courseware vs web sites for on-line delivery of Instruction - Strengths & weakness
In this presentation we will take closer look at two of leading methods of on-line instruction: a FrontPage enabled web-site and Course Info from Blackboard.com. We will look at the same course in both formats and note which instructional components seem to work best on each, giving the instructional reasons for using the component and the advantages/disadvantages of each delivery method. We will focus on:
- Communication:
- Instructional delivery
- Course Management
- Guided practice...how can I do it? (If it is not practiced it is not
learned)
-
Educators agree if it is not practiced it is not
learned. In this presentation we will look at different ways of
providing guided practice for the virtual student. Examples will be
presented of Interactive forms, direct links, objective quizzes, and
extensive projects. We will look at the roles of immediate feedback;
"self talk"; peer support via discussions, tutors, and team
projects; and instructor feedback on "chunked" projects.
- Tips and tricks for designing on-line instruction with Microsoft Office products
- Microsoft Office Products are generally available to
educators at reasonable prices. In this session we will look at
developing on-line instruction using MSWORD, MSPowerPoint, MSExcel
(especially for grade reporting), and some of the exciting features of
FrontPage 2000 that help an instructor provide quality instruction for
students with minimal knowledge of computers or programming. This
session is not designed to "sell Microsoft" but to show you
how to use it if it is the system your IS department has selected as the
campus standard.
