DOUGIE SHINES IN FILM AND MUSIC PREMIERES

In a big week for Dougie fans, our man made an on-screen appearance in a highly anticipated film at the Edinburgh Film Festival and also recorded a new song, being world- premiered on Sunday, 29 August on Clyde 2 Radio in Glasgow.

Dougie drew appreciative laughs for his on screen portrayal of a police constable in the new comedy, "Gregory's Two Girls," sequel to the worldwide hit film "Gregory's Girl."  The  premiere was a highlight of the prestigious Edinburgh Film Festival.  Be on the lookout for the general release of this film in your area.

In a busy week, Dougie also recorded a newly written track called "Your Hand Slipped From Mine."  A tender, folk-tinged ballad which includes a harmonica solo from the man himself, the song has been rushed onto CD for its first airing on the Urban Cowboy show on Clyde 2 in Glasgow.  Tentative plans are to include the track as a bonus on Dougie's Nashville album, which will be available for purchase in the near future.

NEW DOUGIE ALBUM HITS MUSIC ROW

Dougie's new ten track album, recorded in Nashville with top musicians from Reba and Garth Brooks' bands, is now making the rounds among the record companies on Music Row.  It has been described as "Elvis Presley meets Garth Brooks, with production in the style of Mutt Lange [Shania Twain's producer/husband]."

Included in the package are new tracks "Not Who You Seem," "Heaven on Wheels," and "Grey Streets," along with completely re-arranged and re-recorded versions of "Just Like Yesterday," "Greater Than Life," "Railroad," "Steeltown," "Prove 'Em Wrong," and "Thief of Hearts."  Also included is a radically re-arranged, Nashville style production of "City of Shame," the first song Dougie ever wrote and the subject of a video that received extensive TV exposure in Scotland.

"It was a real honour to work with some of Nashville's hottest players, and I couldn't be happier with the new arrangements of my songs," said Dougie. "I particularly want to thank Chris Hicks and Kent Wells of Reba's band for their efforts above and beyond the call of duty." Besides recording the new album, Dougie gave his first live vocal performance in Nashville at a party hosted by Warner Nashville head honcho Bob Saporitti. Future live performances in Europe and the US are currently the subject of discussion in the Robertson camp, as well as the possibility of making the new album available via this website for purchase prior to its commercial release (watch for further details).

Meanwhile, Dougie has returned to Glasgow, taking Nashville's weather along with him, as temperatures in west central Scotland soared into the mid 80's. Scottish fans can look forward to hearing tracks from the new album on stations all over Scotland, beginning with Clyde 2 in Glasgow on 11 July.

DOUGIE RECORDS WITH GARTH/REBA BANDS!!

Dougie has returned to Nashville and recorded ten tracks with members of Reba McEntire and Garth Brooks' bands.  The package includes new versions of the six tracks previously demo-ed by Dougie, plus four other Robertson compositions. As we write, the tracks are being mixed and mastered, and will be presented to Nashville's major record labels within the next 14 days.  Sound clips from the new sessions will be available from this site as soon as can be arranged. The new tracks are fantastic pop country arrangements that show Dougie's compositions to their best advantage and place Dougie's work alongside the best of Nashville's current output.  Many of the songs have been radically reworked, so that they are almost completely new in their sound, but retaining that trademark Dougie vocal style. Dougie and management want to give special thanks to Chris Hicks and Kent Wells for their sterling work in bringing out the best in the excellent team of musicians assembled to record these sessions.  Watch out for more news of Dougie in Nashville coming to this site soon!

DOUGIE MAKES RADIO HISTORY IN SCOTLAND

Dougie became the first native Scot in history to place in the Clyde 2 Radio Listeners' Poll of country artists.  In the poll results countdown broadcast on May 23, Dougie placed at number 11, outpolling such international stars as Alan Jackson, Jo Dee Messina, Steve Wariner, Clint Black, and many others. The poll was topped by the Mavericks, who continue to be ultra-hot in the UK, followed by Reba at number two and Garth Brooks at three.

DOUGIE TO RECORD WITH REBA'S MUSICIANS

Dougie has finalised plans to return to Nashville in June to record 10 tracks with top Music Row musicians, including many members of Reba McEntire's band. The results will be submitted to record labels for possible release as part of an American record deal.  Just as Shania Twain and Faith Hill have remixed and re-recorded tracks for the European versions of their albums, Dougie is reworking his music for the American market with some of the top musicians in the country music industry.  Stand by for further developments!

DOUGIE ON THE SILVER SCREEN

Dougie begins filming this month in Glasgow on a new independently produced feature film. Keep your eye on this space for further details. On the music side of things, he is working on some new songs at the moment, with a return to Nashville on the horizon for further recording.

Meanwhile, on Clyde 2 Radio in Glasgow, a listeners' poll of favorite country artists is currently underway, and it was revealed on air that Dougie is the first Scottish artist to ever receive votes in the balloting. The Top 30 countdown of listeners' choices is to be aired on May 23.

DOUGIE AIRPLAY CONTINUES TO GROW

Dougie has added NorthSound Radio in Aberdeen, Scotland, to the growing list of stations playing "Greater Than Life." NorthSound joins Clyde 2, Scot-FM, West Sound, Radio Scotland, and Radio Tay in blanketing the country with the sound of Scotland's fastest rising new star. Nashville area fans are advised to keep tuned to Dennis Banka's morning show on Z104 for a regular helping of Robertson on the radio.

CLYDE LISTENERS TREATED TO LIVE "LIFE"!

On Sunday evening, 28 March, listeners to the Urban Cowboy show on Clyde 2 (Glasgow) were treated to the first ever live on air performance of "Greater Than Life." Listeners were told there was going to be a special surprise on the program, but were not told the specifics of what was going to happen. Dougie's note perfect rendition was so impressive that some listeners phoning in asked if he had pre-recorded the performance. They were assured that he had strolled into the studio and sang it on air just as heard.

Major developments are brewing both in the UK and in the USA for Dougie. Details will be posted here the moment plans are finalized.

ROBERTSON ROLLS ONTO MUSIC ROW

Dougie and his management team hit Music Row in Nashville the week of March 8 to begin acquainting country music's heavy hitters with the Robertson phenomenon. By the end of the week, nearly all Nashville's major labels had their hands on Dougie's 6-track demo. One Nashville record company, home to one of the world's biggest superstars, invited Robertson to listen with them as they auditioned the entire CD. Music publishers and producers were also serviced with the Robertson package.

Attending the 30th annual Country Radio Seminar at the Nashville Convention Center, Dougie met and mingled with many of country music's brightest lights. He particularly enjoyed meeting Bryan White and Jon Randall of Asylum Records and Curb Records star Deborah Allen. Another highlight was the Arista party at the Hard Rock Cafe featuring a blistering live set from Brooks & Dunn.

"Greater Than Life" and several other cuts from Dougie's demo hit the airwaves over Nashville between 8 and 9 a.m. on Monday, 15 March, courtesy of Dennis Banka of radio station Z104. Dennis, a colorful figure well known in Music City, also conducted an extensive interview with Dougie on-air.

Dougie and his management would like to thank Chris Hicks of Reba McEntire's band and Audey Teeter of Belden Enterprises for their help in Nashville, as well as the folks at Digital Dog Design, Debbie Holley of Holley & Harman PR, and all the many others who made our first visit to Nashville so enjoyable and productive.

Watch this space for further Dougie doings in Music City.

ROBERTSON ON THE RADIO: ANOTHER STATION JOINS THE BANDWAGON

Yet another radio station has added the Dougie Robertson hit, "Greater Than Life," to their daytime music mix. Radio Tay, broadcasting to the Dundee/Perthshire area of Scotland, has joined ranks with Clyde 2, Scot-FM, West Sound, and Radio Scotland by spinning Dougie's much requested country-pop smash. When asked how soon the track will be available for the public to buy, Dougie replied, "I will be speaking to record company people in Nashville in March, and hope to build on the great reception I've received in Scotland."

Meanwhile, keep your eyes peeled for sound clips coming soon to this website. The clips will include a taste of "Greater Than Life" plus five other Robertson compositions.

DOUGIE TRIPLE WHAMMY ON SCOTTISH AIRWAVES

Dougie was all over the Scottish airwaves on the evening of Sunday, 7 February, with 3 different songs being aired on 3 major radio stations within 3 hours!

Dougie-mania kicked off between 7 and 8 pm when Dave Johanson on regional station Scot-FM played "Greater Than Life" and mentioned Dougie's upcoming acoustic performance and interview on 14 February.

Then between 8 and 9, Clyde 2 Glasgow's Urban Cowboy featured a "Tattooed Twinplay" consisting of Billy Ray Cyrus and Dougie's country-rocker "Prove 'em Wrong". (Photos soon to be posted on this site will depict Dougie's saxophone tattoo in all its glory).

To cap things off, national station BBC Radio Scotland's "Brand New Opry" program played Dougie's "Steeltown" between 9 and 10 pm, reaching listeners from the Shetland Islands to the Scottish borders.

With airplay in Scotland reaching saturation point, Dougie's team is ready to take the campaign to Nashville next month to give the home of country music a taste of the Dougie Robertson phenomenon.

February 5, 1999-

Dougie has recorded an acoustic session and live interview for Scot-FM, a regional radio station covering the Scottish central belt, including Edinburgh and Glasgow. He performed "Steeltown" and "Railroad" with guitar and percussion accompaniment, and was interviewed by Scot Country DJ Dave Johanson. The session and interview are being broadcast on Valentine's Sunday, February 14. Scot FM has been a big supporter of Dougie, giving frequent play to his crossover hit, "Greater Than Life."

MORE DOUGIE ON THE AIRWAVES:

1) "Steeltown" is being played on BBC Scotland's "Brand New Opry" radio show on Friday, 5 February. The broadcast is Dougie's first national airplay, reaching all parts of Scotland.

2) The first radio broadcast of "Prove 'em Wrong", a powerful country-rock composition from the Robertson pen, came on Sunday, 31 January on Clyde 2, Glasgow, the UK's highest rated AM station. The station's Urban Cowboy show also played "Greater Than Life" and "Steeltown" on the same program. A copy of Dougie's promo CD was given away in a contest, and a record number of phone entries was reported, graphically demonstrating Robertson's surging popularity in his home territory.
