When i first got interested in country music
in 1967 at the age of 20 the first artist that i listened to was EDDY ARNOLD
because of his reputation. In 1969 i first heard the voice of JIM REEVES
and I have managed to collect all of JIM and EDDY'S recordings. They both
had the two most beautiful voices that god ever gave to a human being and
they both should go down in history as being the two greatest singers ever.

When I was a little girl my Mom used to play
her Eddy Arnold albums while cleaning the house, in the early morning while
having her coffee and reading the newspaper. She used to take me to all
his concerts every time he came into town. I am 37 years old now and I
STILL know every Eddy Arnold song. My favorite is Cattle Call. My 6 yr.
old likes that one too. I wish now that I can appreciate how much she enjoys
his music, I could take her to one more concert. Because of his retirement,
you see so little of him now. But whenever I'm switching throughout the
T.V. channels and happen to come across him I call her and tell her and
you can hear the contentness in her voice when she sees him.

In reviewing AMG's opinions of various artists
and their voices I found some unusual vocal type tones listed. The opinion
I was disappointed in was about Tennessee Ernie Ford. I thought his voice
had more to it than they accredited to him:
Eddy Arnold-Smooth, Lush, Plaintive, Sentimental,
Rollicking, Gentle, Refined/Mannered, Poignant, Laid-Back/Mellow, Organic,
Amiable/Good-Natured, Elegant, Soothing.
Tennessee Ernie Ford-Laid-Back/Mellow, Amiable/Good-Natured
Johnny Cash-Humorous, Fiery, Spiritual, Sentimental,
Rollicking, Poignant, Witty, Confident, Organic, Aggressive, Amiable/Good-Natured,
Visceral, Earnest, Rebellious, Brooding
Willie Nelson-Yearning, Wistful, Rollicking,
Calm/Peaceful, Poignant, Laid-Back/Mellow, Organic, Earthy, Amiable/Good-Natured,
Soothing, Wry.
Can anyone tell me what"organic" is? Eddy
Arnold also favorably compares with Johnny Cash in "Spiritual"
The one thing Eddy had over all was his laugh
which we all know came from deep down in his heart.

If Eddy gets the chance to read this, I want
to thank him for being so honest and real and warm. I am 36 years old and
didn't care for country music much of my life, but about 10 years ago I
was in a little record shop and I heard Eddy singing "You Don't Know Me"
which I knew by Ray Charles. Eddy's voice was like sad melting butter,
so rich and real. I wanted to know more about him, and so started buying
his records. I have about 30 so far and love every single one of them.
My favorite album is "The Warmth of Eddy" where he outdoes Sinatra on "My
Way". I played "I Started A Joke" for some young friends of mine and I
couldn't believe it!! They were so moved, just as I was!! Eddy, you are
such a gentleman and you brought an unbelievable amount of quiet joy to
me in these last 10 years. I'm sorry I caught on to you so late, but I
found you now and I'll always be there for you. Your voice is like a tall,

Hello, Bill. My name is Rick Carr and
I hail from southwestern Colorado.
I ran across your Eddy Arnold web site and
it is something! I especially appreciated the tribute by Bill Winstead.
Eddy really was a profound influence in his
life!
When I was in high school in the '50s I had
an Eddy Arnold record which I nearly wore out but I don't recall the title
of the album. On it were two songs,
I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter, and Don't
Fence Me
In. I'd sure like to hear Eddy sing Don't
Fence Me In again, but I can't find it anywhere. Any ideas?
Last question, an ignorant one, is Eddy still
living?
Best regards.
Rick Carr
Eddy is very much alive. He will celebrate
his 84th birthday on May 15, 2002. I can send you an email with the
song "Don't Fence Me In" attached and you
should be able to download it and listen to the song. Bill Comer

I have signed the guest book so many times,
I felt pushy, but I will "do it again" more often.
I received a very nice letter from The Kennedy
Centers Honors in February thanking me for my letter concerning
Eddy Arnold. He assured me that Eddy is being
considered for the honor, among others, and when the decision is
made, they will let everyone know.
I thought this was very kind for them to take
the time to respond.
I have been in touch with "Music Of Your Life"

music and I have heard some songs, but not
nearly enough.
Just wanted you to know. I hope Eddy is well.
Of course there are no guarantees in this life, but I do pray he
continues on for a long, long, time.
Also, I am so sorry to learn about Gerry Purcell.

Written by a war veteran.
I Will NOT Forget!
I sat in a movie theater watching "Schindler's
List," asked myself, "Why didn't the Jews fight back?"
Now I know why.
I sat in a movie theater, watching "Pearl
Harbor and asked myself, "Why weren't we prepared?"
Now I know why.
Civilized people cannot fathom, much less
predict, the actions of evil people.
On September 11, dozens of capable airplane
passengers allowed themselves to be overpowered by a handful of
poorly
armed terrorists because they did not comprehend
the depth of hatred that motivated their captors.
On September 11, thousands of innocent people
were murdered because too many Americans naively reject the
reality that some nations are dedicated to
the dominance of others. Many political pundits, pacifists and media
personnel want us to forget the carnage. They
say we must focus on the bravery of the rescuers and ignore the
cowardice of the killers.
They implore us to understand the motivation
of the perpetrators. Major television stations have announced they
will assist the
healing process by not replaying devastating
footage of the planes crashing into the Twin Towers.
I will not be manipulated.
I will not pretend to understand.
I will not forget.
I will not isolate myself from my fellow Americans
by pretending an attack on the USS Cole in Yemen was not an
attack on the United States of America.
I will not be appeased with pointless, quick
retaliatory strikes like those perfected by the previous administration.
I will not be comforted by "feel-good, do
nothing" regulations like the silly "Have your bags been under your
control?"
question at the airport.
I will not forget the moral victory handed
the North Vietnamese by American war protesters who reviled and spat
upon the
returning soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines.
I will not be softened by the wishful thinking
of pacifists who chose reassurance over reality.
I will embrace the wise words of Prime Minister
Tony Blair who told Labor Party conference, "They have no moral
inhibition on the slaughter of the innocent.
If they could have murdered not 7,000 but 70,000, does anyone doubt
they would have done so and rejoiced in it?
There is no compromise possible with such
people, no meeting of minds, no point of understanding with such terror.
Just a choice: defeat it or be defeated by
it. And defeat it we must!"
I will force myself to:
-hear the weeping
-feel the helplessness
-imagine the terror
-sense the panic
-smell the burning flesh
-experience the loss
-remember the hatred.
I sat in a movie theater, watching "Private
Ryan" and asked myself, "Where did they find the courage?"
Now I know.
We have no choice. Living without liberty

I have loved EDDY ARNOLD's music for 30 some
of my 47 years.I have had the privilege of seeing EDDY
ARNOLD twice in concert.I shook his hand after
the second concert.
The first EDDY ARNOLD concert I attended was
at Curtis Hixon Hall in Tampa,Florida in January,1971 with my
father for my 16th birthday. This was the first
concert I ever attended outside of public school or church. The second
EDDY ARNOLD concert I attended was in the
late 1990's at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater,Florida.EDDY
ARNOLD was excellent and Down Home in both
concerts.

I am honoured to sign Eddy Arnold's guest
book !!!
When I was three years old,I remember my uncle
"Charlie Skagen" singing all the great songs that Eddy recorded.
I have grown up playing these numbers and
I sure have learned so much. I am not a singer by the way.
I have learned to play such greats as "The
Cattle Call", "Boquet Of Roses", "Molly Darling" Etc.
Eddy Arnold was so smooth and so gentle that
you could feel his presence when he was performing.
EDDY ACTUALLY SANG WHAT HE FELT AND IT WAS
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL !!!!
Eddy is a great man and a true gentleman and
I sure am glad that he was a part of my life indirectly, and he was
one of my greatest inspirations and heroes.
I think he is one man that deserves a whole
lot of recognition in any and all fields.
Dr. Eddy Arnold, Thank you for so many years
of the best country music ever and thanks for being my friend !!!
YOU WILL NEVER BE EQUALLED AND THAT IS A FACT
!!!

Dearest Bill…growing up my Daddy and I sat
around playing guitars to every Eddy Arnold song we
could sing. When my Daddy passed away,
I wrote one of the most tender and sweet country songs
that has ever been written about Heaven, my
dear sweet Daddy, his favorite Gibson guitar
and, of course, the forever great Eddy Arnold.
When people hear this song, they literally cry; it
is that precious and pure. It would

Dear Bill:
I have been in touch with Wynn Stewart's daughter,
Wren. I was not up todate on Stewart's career but found out he
wrote and recorded "It's Such a Pretty World"
in 1967. His version was number one of the country charts that
year.
His daughter has a web site in his memory
http://www.wynnstewart.com/
She wanted to know how one gets selected to
the HOF so I contacted Peg Whittaker and my prvious email to you
included Peg's instructions. I have
passed it on to Wren.
Questions:
Did you know of him, his reputation or anything
else?
What did Eddy think of him/did he know him?
I do not know if you have the answers but
the young lady is trying to do the best for her father. He died at
a young
age. Her site has 800 hits and there
seems to be a fan base saying Stewart should be in the Hall.
Thanks,
Your Eddy Arnold friend,

Mr. Michael M. Kaiser, President
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing
Arts
2700 F Street, NW
Washington, DC 20566
Dear Mr. Kaiser:
This letter places Mr. Ed Benson, Executive
Director of the Country Music Association (CMA), Nashville,
Tennessee in nomination to be a member of
your "artists committee", to serve in an advisory capacity to the
Honors producer, George Stevens, Jr., for
the year 2002 Kennedy Center Honors.
Mr. Benson has been associated with the CMA
since 1979 serving as its first Associate Executive Director. In
1992, he became Executive Director of the
very first trade association to promote country music. I note that
during
this ten-year period, country music has had
an unprecedented growth exemplified by record sales and television
exposure.
Mr. Benson's work regularly puts him in contact
with top country artist and writers and leading executives from all
facets of the industry. He is its "spokesperson"
all over the world. He is constantly advancing CMA's strategic
marketing development initiatives.
His credentials include being a member of
The Recording Academy, the Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences,
the National Academy of Popular Music, Copyright
Society of the South, the American Society of Association
Executives and Who's Who Worldwide
His family traces their roots back to 1902
when his grandfather started Nashville's first independent,
non-denominational music publishing company.
A graduate of Vanderbilt University, Mr. Benson will bring
objectivity to your "artists committee".
Country music fans appreciate the “Centers”
recognition of the country artists who have contributed much to the
American way of life.
Sincerely,

WHY I LIKE EDDY!
Through his music, Eddy Arnold has been a
friend of my for many years. In all the ups and downs of life, Eddy
has
always had a song the fit the occasion.
He has helped me cope with difficult times and celebrate the good times.
I
love the way Eddy Arnold sings a song.
His voice strikes a cord in my heart. Though I do not know him personally,
his voice reflects a warmth of personality
and genuine goodness which connects with my soul. He sings from the
heart and is able to communicate real feelings
of happiness or sadness and thus touch my feelings of the same. In
addition, I also hear, in his singing a genuine
humility which cannot be fabricated. One either has it or doesn't
have
it. Eddy has it, because I believe it
is real. Eddy Arnold continues to be my friend through his music.
I applaud his
success. He has earned it the right
way and handled it with class. I am proudly an Eddy Arnold fan and
always will
be.
