One place I wanted to visit was the town of Bayeux, in Normandie, France.  My interest in Bayeux was as the launching site for the Norman Invasion of England in 1066 and the famous Bayeux tapestry that tells the story of the invasion.  In a symbolically graceful twist of fate, Bayeux was also the first town liberated in the Invasion of Normandie in , As serendipity would have it, I was in Bayeux on Remembrance Day, and went through the ceremonies with the townspeople.  This included sitting through a full Catholic mass, though I probably would have skipped that part if I had realized what was going on in time.

Here is a side view of the Bayeux Cathedral, built in the late 11th century.

Above:  a great old half-timber house.

Below:  one of the town's many war memorials, this one without a cemetary.

If you ever make it to Bayeux, try to stay in the Family Home Hostel...great people, great building, great food, cheap.
