After Leaving Luxembourg, we made our way across the English Channel by ferry, then up to Scotland by train.  Unfortunately, we didn't get outside of Edinbourgh, but the city is quite beautiful, and the people were wonderful.  Here are two pictures of part of the old city.  You can see Edinbourgh Castle in the background of both of them.

Then there was that pleasant afternoon when we heard a strange hissing sound outside.  We looked out the window and beheld this hot air ballon:

On another pleasant afternoon (or maybe the same one) we visited Hollyrood Palace, which is still a royal residence.  Hollyrood is where Mary Queen of Scots lived and witnessed her best friend get murdered by her husband.  We didn't get any pictures of the sumptuous interior, but one part of the palace is built right up against the ruins of an abbey church.  Here is picture of the ruin's partial ceiling (I was leaning, not the ruins).

 At the opposite end of "The Royal Mile" from Hollyrood Palace is Edinbourgh Castle, a huge, massive affair perched up on a rock cliff.  In the castle is a memorial dedicated to fallen soldiers from the last several hundred years.  On the outside of this memorial is a strange statue that must have generated at least some controvery when it was erected.  I guess the soldier is supposed to be protecting the little boy, but......
