What would you do when you are on
vacation 3 states away from home, you get sick and a storm comes up just as you get to a
great location for photography? Well here's what Jeri Childs did.
These images were gathered on a trip I took in early spring
several years back. It is clearly an indication that since I am from Washington<vbg>
I have learned not to let a little rain "dampen" my adventures. I had stopped to
see some friends in Salt Lake City and decided to continue South with no real itinerary.
Which is very often how I travel letting the trip unfold as it may. When I found myself
not too far from Bryce I decided to check it out.
I arrived very late in the day and was feeling a little
sniffle so I decided to treat myself to a motel and a meal in this little diner
(rather than sleep in my truck). When I told the waitress how I was feeling she said
"Ive got just the thing for you and she brought me a bowl of this wonderful
vegetable soup. |
 |
In the morning I felt 100% better, was up before sunrise
and headed into Bryce. |
 |
By the time I had scouted several locations for shooting it
had begun to rain. At first it was intermittent and then it began to pour and to blow as
well. |
 |
There was a very stormy looking sky, black clouds with
bright spots of sunshine. |
 |
 |
I managed to use the ever faithful garbage bag and at a
couple different locations gather some images. |
 |
It really was spectacular what the sky and the light was
doing with the already incredible colors there and the shapes as well. |
 |
Soon I came to my senses and
realized that I was probably a reasonably perfect lightening rod <bg> and that
perhaps it was time head for cover. |
 |
I did stay and watch the storm for awhile longer but the rain
became relentless. Would really like to return to Bryce!

I had received these images a couple weeks ago as a normal
upload. After looking at them, I emailed and asked Jeri if she would give us the story
behind them. I tried to match these images with her reply email story. It made the page
composition a little ragged, but I think it gets the idea across.
Folks, maybe we all should pray for rain instead
of fair weather when we go out on our shoots?
