Respite

Welcome home, I've missed you dear.
It feels so good to hold you
in my arms, to draw you near
               with love's embrace, bonds renew.

We will rise before the sun
               to the songbirds' serenade
and love again, our bodies one,
               no desires shall be stayed!

               We will live for loving
               and pursue our grand dreams,
               excited at living
we shall bask in sun beams.

Your arduous journey now at end,
               please rest your weary mind.
               Bards and bandits can't offend
with gnashing teeth or subtle rhyme.

So lay your head upon my chest
               and let your troubles go.
Hear songbirds singing from the nest
of joys that you will know.
