Valentine's Day
(for Celine Chauvet)
Bought you a ‘dozen roses’ cake today
Red icing buds and sugary thorned stems
Long, of course, and wrapped in our names
Dated with the anniversary of our success
It was so beautiful, your face,
When you opened the long flower box
Gasping then crying into laughter
We hugged until we could wait no longer
Then in a fumbling rush
Hungry to taste how sweet
We cut into our love
