Introduction:
Greetings to all Sequoyah High School Alumnae and welcome to the first edition of the official  SHS BRAVISSIMO!  - a brand new  triennial Newsletter.  The first thing I'd like to address is the reason for my writing this Newsletter.  Actually there are several of them and I am the kind of person who likes to be open, honest and upfront about why I'm doing whatever I happen to be doing.

I decided to do this Newsletter after a friend of mine (you know who you are :-)  casually mentioned the idea of writing an SHS Newsletter just after our recent 20 Year Class Reunion.  My purposes for creating this Newsletter are:

A) My own personal enjoyment of writing (in general) combined with  my particular pleasure in using the computer to design web pages.

B) My desire to somehow reconnect my past (which seemed rather lost to me until recently) with my present life, i.e.,  a current  "philios" kinship type of  love that I feel towards those peers I barely half knew more than two decades ago.  For various and unimportant reasons, I had, until recently, all but left those people behind as mere blurred memories.

C) The possibility that the exposure might open up avenues of future endeavors in web page design or other computer/journalistic related activity, i.e., I'm looking for work which might actually pay me some money . I've been playing around with web site design and poetry publishing for the last four years and have reached the point of truly needing a job.  Okay, enough with the introductions and on to the business and fun features of our current Newsletter.

Class of 1981 News:
Sequoyah's Class of 1981 held their 20th Year Reunion on Saturday, October 13, 2001.  Alumnae who served on the committee to bring it all together in grand style were Teresa Mercer-Reimer, Peggy Caldwell, Samuel H. Harris, Dock Hollingsworth, Carla Renee Gable-McColl, Kimberly Lamm, Richard Sanders and Janet Shepherd-Swahn.

THE WEE POET TREE has dedicated eight pages (nine if you include the Deceased Alumni Memorial Page ) to remembering our recent 20th Year Class Reunion with photos of mine and those shared by other friendly folks from our graduating class. I offer a sincere and heartfelt  "thank you"  to all who were so thoughtful in sending me your personal photographs and emails about our reunion.  It is now one month since our 20th year class reunion in bristling Buckhead/Atlanta.  We've all had time to process photos, digest the event and scrapbook remembrances of the utterly noteworthy reunion which took place.  I hope each of you who attended thoroughly enjoyed yourselves as much as I did.

The fact is, I  have apparently re-entered my teenage years and am vicariously re-living some of the stuff I missed out on during high school,  e.g., I'm writing a High School Newsletter at the age of 38!  Perhaps I'll snap out of it before I reach age 40 (isn't that the age of accountability?) , but I'm in no hurry!  It feels good to act a bit like a teenager without all that emotional baggage that came with those adolescent years!  It has certainly perked up things here on the home front in Lynn Haven, Florida, LOL!!!  For those who are interested, I will leave the "Photo Memory" pages up as long as possible - (until I need more web space for some other project).  If you wish to view them, please do so a.s.a.p. because I can't guarantee that they'll be available on the web indefinitely.

Class of 1977 News:
The planning is apparently underway for the class of  '77's Silver Class Reunion -- yes, it has been almost 25 years sincce my brother, David Bryant, and his fellow Braves flew the Sequoyah coop!  Log on to Classmates.com to see who is involved in planning this very special event.  The class of '77 had a lot of cool and memorable students as I recall :-)  Perhaps they weren't quite as WILD as the class of '78 - (my sister, Susan's class), but it's a close call!

Class of 1982 News:
These younguns (anyone younger than me is a youngun!)  are apparently beginning to stir the collective pot of ideas for planning their 20th Year Reunion.  I hope they have as much fun at theirs as I had at mine!  For more details, go to  Classmates.com and have a look around on the message board.  There are all sorts interesting messages afoot between alumnae of various graduating classes.

Words of Wisdom/Advice about Class Reunions that were posted on Classmates.com board:
From the class of 1970, we just had our 30th Year Class Reunion in October! We went  through Class reunions of Georgia...Recommend that you do not use them!  Just word of advice, Your choice.

I think I can safely speak for the class of '81 Reunion Committee
in advising that we felt slightly ripped off by Taylor Reunions.  We had a very elegant and successful reunion, but it truly cost more than a reunion should.   Could we have gotten more than we did for what it cost?  I suppose I don't really know for sure, but I would like to think so.  This is NOT an insult to ANYONE who worked on the committee -- it's just a realistic hindsight-is-20/20 assessment or my "post mortem" of the event (as one very funny fellow said to me).  I don't know who to recommend for help with coordinating a class reunion, but I think the class of '81 will most likely opt to go much more casually the next time around by simply agreeing to meet at a local Atlanta bar/restaurant, or at least that's the last I was told concerning this matter.

Speaking of Christmas, if you are having a heck of a time trying to figure out what to get this year for that person who is so hard to buy for -- (you know - that person on your list who really doesn't need anything and seems to have just about everything he/she wants) . . . you might consider an unusual gift with an original flair this year . . .  a gift of ART  - Visit Janet Shepherd-Swahn's ART4SALE web site for a large selection of unique art -- a collection that is sure to have something to please each person's individual taste.  Janet Swahn  is  a Sequoyah  High School Class of 1981 graduate. She and her husband Rick sell art from their large gallery in beautiful Boca Raton, Florida.

And here's another gift idea from Lisa Ryder- Freeman (class of '81) she writes:  " I and my husband are the owners of our own video arcade business, American Arcade. We own and operate video games, pinball machines, pool tables etc. If anyone is interested in purchasing something special for christmas for that person who has everything...well this would be something quite different that a lot of people dont have. We do sell this equipment. I can be reached at this email address: americanarcade@peoplepc.com "

The following is a simple yet delicious recipe that will  spice up your holidays:

Anne’s Fresh  Salsa

8-10 fresh tomatoes (blanched in hot water, and skinned)
fresh garlic – 2 or 3 cloves (pressed or mutilated somehow) ?
fresh cilantro (a normal size bunch – use just the leaves, not stems)
1 medium vidalia onion – grated in a food processor
1 small bunch green onions – finely chopped
1 package taco seasoning mix
salt (to taste)
black pepper (to taste)
(optional) 1 teaspoon (at the most!) of hellish relish*

*Hellish Relish is simply a combination of habernero and jalapeno peppers which have been grated in a food processor and preserved with a bit of vinegar.

Process fresh skinned tomatoes, onions and cilantro in food processor.  Place in large bowl. Add other ingredients to your own individual taste.  If you don’t like it HOT, leave off the hellish relish!

The reason this salsa is so good is because it is made with fresh tomatoes and fresh cilantro.  FRESH is the key!  If you try to make it with canned tomatoes or dried cilantro – it won’t be very good salsa.  Serve with warm tortilla chips and it’s hard to stop eating!

More Upcoming Events:
It's that time of year again!  . . . The time when our thoughts turn toward appreciating our blessings with the celebration of the mid-autumn holiday called Thanksgiving.  It would be downright un-American not to mention Thanksgiving in a November Newsletter, and with that said I would like to share a couple of poems, one of which was carved out by a poet friend of mine, Mr. Rod Nichols -

TURKEY DAY

I love the thought of "Turkey Day"
and havin' fam'ly round,
that sage and cornbread dressin', yum,
I'll eat it by the pound.

There's just one little obstacle
I know it sounds absurd,
but why if I don't cook it
do I have to slice that bird?

It happens ever' holiday
from this man's point-of-view,
they'll hand to me the carvin' knife
to slice and dole and stew.

I never get the turkey right,
it's chunks right to the rim,
and then my courage starts to fade
and dinner's lookin' grim.

By now the focal point is me
I've gird myself for sneers,
and then the little woman purrs
"Why thank you honey dear."

I love the thought of "Turkey Day"
and this may sound absurd,
but why if I don't cook it
do I have to slice that bird?

AFTER THANKSGIVING POEM

I ate too much Turkey,
I ate too much corn,
I ate too much pudding and pie.
I'm stuffed up with muffins
and much too much stuffin'
I'm probably going to die!

I piled up my plate
and I ate and I ate.
But I wish I had known
when to stop,
For I'm so crammed with yams,
sauces, gravies, and jams
That my buttons
are starting to pop!

I'm full of tomatoes and
creamed-mashed potatoes
My stomach is swollen and sore,
But there's still some dessert
so I guess it won't hurt
if I eat just a little bit more!
