Softly. .
.
There was a moment of bright
remembrance, as the choir
readied to sing.
Secret thoughts of you
I had hidden for so long
began to emerge from my
cache of memories,
secrets long past telling.
Visions of you and I,
and our time together,
that allowed broken hearts
to heal.
I say a silent "thank
you" to your
quiet form so tranquil
there.
In my mind, robed angels
hover 'round you.
I see lashes closed in
death, that
used to flutter open,
when morning
breezes first touched
your cheek,
such soft bright eyes.
These memories of us I
shall ne'er forget,
for they are etched upon
my heart like
initials on a tree.
Sleep there, and go softly,
my sweet
child.
Sleep,
and cry no more.
