Harrison Tyler Hues was born on February 5, 1841. On November 4, 1861, he enlisted along with his brother Howard Malcolm Hughes in the Union Army (41st Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company G). He died in battle at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in the "Stones River Battle". He was buried on the battle-field; he is now buried in Grave 42, Section B, Stones River Cemetery.
Harrison Tyler Hues was one of three sons of Ira Hughes that fought in the Civil War. Ira Lucas Hues enlisted in the 41st Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company G, on September 10, 1861. Two months later, on November 4, 1861, Howard and Harrison enlisted in Hazen's Brigade, Company G, of the Forty-first Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Of these three, Howard was the only one to survive: Ira was killed at Picketts Mills, Georgia, and is buried in Chattanooga Military Cemetery. Howard was discharged for physical disability on June 14, 1863, at Nashville, Tennessee.
