Ira Lucas Hues was born on September 30, 1835. On September 10, 1861, he enlisted in the Union Army (41st Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company G). He died in battle at Picketts Mills, Georgia, and was buried in Chatttanooga Military Cemetery.
Ira Lucas Hues was one of three sons of Ira Hughes that fought in the Civil War. On November 4, 1861, Howard and Harrison, enlisted in Hazen's Brigade, Company G, of the Forty-first Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Of these three, Howard was the only one to survive: Harrison was killed by a shell while guarding a battery at Murfreesborough (Tennessee), and was buried on the battle-field; his is now in Grave 42, Section B, Stones River Cemetery. Howard was discharged for physical disability on June 14, 1863, at Nashville, Tennessee.
